Faria: Why I liked Sven

12 January 2006

CELEBRITY Big Brother contestant Faria Alam has revealed she fancied the England Manager Sven Goran Eriksson for his mind and NOT for his looks, during their fling in 2004.

Talking to her TV housemates she said the Swede's power turned her on.

“I liked him for the way he was with me as much as anything else,” said the former FA secretary.

She continued: “Mentally I found him very interesting. If it was a question of just going for looks – a lot of guys are good looking. I have always liked powerful guys.”

But she denied persuing him.

“I don’t go for married men or people with girlfriends,” she said. “But if they go for me that’s a different matter.”

She also said she never intended for her affair to be splashed over all the papers.

“When I was having a relationship with him, I never for a moment, imagined it was going to come out. Maybe I’d talked about in jest in a few emails but I never realised a lot of people knew."

Housemates fail task

12 January 2006

THE housemates will have to do without booze after failing their task.
The group have a budget of just £1 per head for the next four days.

Faria Alam, Pete Burns and Dennis Rodman all failed their part of the scientific experiments task.

"There's the booze gone," said reformed alcoholic Michael Barrymore.

"With this budget, we're not going to have enough for cigarettes or alcohol," said a despondent Jodie Marsh.

Bullied

Last night Burns expressed some guilt over the housemates' treatment of Marsh, who has complained of feeling bullied.

The group seem to have shunned the glamour girl, who has no friends except for fake celebrity Chantelle.

"It may be being really cruel to her," Burns admitted to Barrymore.

"But if we all turned hostile on her now she could walk out and say, 'I was driven from the Big Brother house by 50-year-olds'. Everyone would feel sorry for her... sobbing on the top of the steps as she fled the building in two belts."

Our Jodie is being bullied, say parents

12 January 2006

Glamour model Jodie Marsh will liken her time in the Big Brother house to the bullying she faced at school, her parents said today.
Marsh's mother Kristina and her father John said it was "getting harder" to watch their daughter on the show.

he 27-year-old Essex girl has been reduced to tears by nasty comments from fellow housemates George Galloway, Pete Burns and Michael Barrymore.

Mrs Marsh, of Brentwood, Essex, told GMTV: "I think she will liken the house to her schooldays. This is exactly what happened then. There was one strong person at school - exactly like George Galloway - that turned everyone against her.

"I don't know how much longer she will be able to cope with that."

Mrs Marsh said that although they were happy their daughter had chosen to take part in the reality TV show, they believed Jodie had "no idea" what she was getting into.

She said: "We had no idea just how bad it would be and we don't think she had any idea what she was going into.

"She has seen it before, but I don't think she realised how much people would be going up against her... basically she's been ostracised."

Mr Marsh said he believed comedian Michael Barrymore had "serious problems of his own" which he was taking out on Jodie.

She said: "He's screaming at her to shut her mouth and telling her not to criticise anyone, when he is criticising her."

He added: "This is Jodie's job. She was looking forward to going in, we didn't mind at all.. we knew she was going to be in with a lot of competition, that's what it's all about, but we didn't expect her to be bullied by three middle-aged men... one of which is a third-rate politician who claims to be a gentleman, when he isn't."

Marsh has made Beatbullying her chosen charity while she is in the house.

She became an ambassador for the children's charity after suffering years of taunts at school, and being bullied so badly that she contemplated suicide.

I'LL GIVE UP ON FAME IF PUBLIC HATE ME

12 January 2006

GLAMOUR girl Jodie Marsh says she will give up her celebrity lifestyle if the public hate her when she leaves Big Brother.

In an emotional outburst, Jodie confided she had almost been driven to a breakdown by taunts from strangers.

And she blasted celebrities including Jade Goody and Ulrika Jonsson who she claimed had branded her ugly. Jodie made her confession as friends hit out at "bullies" George Galloway, Michael Barrymore and Pete Burns who they say have tormented her.

The Essex girl said it was "make or break" time for her career and she has thought about moving abroad.

The 34DD glamour model said: "After three years of loving what I do but hating the abuse and being depressed behind closed doors, I've had enough. If it's going to be like this for me forever I'd rather not do this job any more."

She added: "I have been called ugly, a slapper, a minger, a freak, trashy, trampy, thick, pointless, a bimbo, hideous and vile.

My boobs have been described as being like spaniels' ears or saggy just because they don't touch my chin like silicone ones."

Friends rallied round to support Jodie, 27, who was picked on at school and is now an ambassador for action group Beat Bullying.

Pal Sarah Blight said: "It seems ironic that Jodie was bullied so badly at school yet is being tormented to make a bunch of has-beens feel a little better about themselves."

Jodie - up for eviction tomorrow with MP Galloway and 80s pop star Burns - hit out on her website days before entering the BB house.

Fears for 'bullied' housemate Jodie

12 January 2006

Anti-bullying campaigners have voiced concern over the plight of Jodie Marsh in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The glamour girl has been reduced to tears by nasty comments from fellow housemates George Galloway, Pete Burns and Michael Barrymore.

Marsh, 27, has made Beatbullying her chosen charity while she is in the house.

The Essex girl became an ambassador for the children’s charity after suffering years of taunts at school.

A spokesman for the charity said: “Beatbullying has received a huge number of emails from young people across the UK who support Jodie’s stance on bullying, many of them very worried about some of the treatment Jodie is going through in the Big Brother house.

“Beatbullying will speak out against bullying whenever it happens. We will continue to support Jodie through her journey.

“Like all of the young people we work with, we know Jodie is strong and will stand up against bullies whenever she meets them.”

Marsh has said she was bullied so badly at school in Brentwood, Essex, that she contemplated suicide.

The housemates continued their scientific experiments task yesterday with Michael Barrymore smashing eggs against his forehead in a bid to answer the question: “Can you make yourself unlucky?”

Pete Burns and Dennis Rodman were given a pot plant each to test the theory that speaking to plants helps them grow.

“I hate plants. I hope it dies,” muttered Burns.

And Preston was forced to chomp through boxes of chocolate liqueurs to test whether or not they can get you drunk.

Meanwhile, ladies’ man Rodman was trying his luck with Faria Alam.

He turned his attention to England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson’s ex after flirting with Chantelle and Jodie.

Rodman made his first move by sliding his hand under Alam’s top. She gave him short shrift, removing his hand then pretending nothing had happened.

But the former basketball star, who counts Madonna and Carmen Electra among his previous conquests, was undeterred.

He made another play for her during a conversation about sugar daddies.

Dead Or Alive singer Burns mused: “I hope some 97-year-old blind, paraplegic billionaire sugar daddy is watching this so I can leave him outside Tiffany’s while I use his credit card before wheeling him home. And me and my partner could go and live with him and he wouldn’t even know.”

Her parents are starting to bug me as much as she is! They are everywhere in all the papers and on tv/radio. So much for her dad being ill or whatever she said the other night. No wonder Jodie is how she is, her parents are alot to blame.

PETE'S EX TELLS ALL
Ex-wife lifts the lid on the amazing past and gay fling of the plastic pouting poser
By Fiona Cummins, Showbiz Reporter And Cameron Robertson

12 January 2006

PETE Burn's ex-wife of 25 years yesterday lifted the lid on their extraordinary life together - and revealed how he began a gay fling a year before their marriage ended.

Lynne, 47, said Pete began to see boyfriend Michael Simpson while they were still wed.

But incredibly, she is not bitter and insists that she and Pete remain "soul mates". She said: "We've been separated for a year. It was time to move on and we're still best friends. We hadn't drifted apart - we're still as close as we ever were. We just needed a change. It was a time when mutually we had to grow in different directions."

Stylist Lynne, who lives in West London, said: "Michael is a lovely man and we get on well. I have no problems with that." And she laughed: "What a disappointment I am!" Lynne said: "He was seeing Michael when we were still married but I knew about that.

"Pete has always been very honest and Michael wasn't the reason our marriage ended. There really is no scandal behind the break-up, it was very amicable and I'm very proud of him."

Pete has just sold the eight bedroom house he lived in with Lynne since 1988 for £1.7million - making a £1million profit.

And although now divorced, Lynne remains supportive of Pete - and backed his decision to spend some of the money on plastic surgery.

She said: "I can't be objective about Pete's surgery because I've spent every single waking hour of my life for 30 years with the guy and I don't see what other people see.

"It's the person inside, it's Pete's soul that I was attracted to and that's never changed, as far I'm concerned. It's just been such a gradual thing, it has evolved over the years, and my role in his life has always been hair, make-up, wardrobe, so I guess I'm as guilty as charged. I've been supportive of everything that he does." Pete and Lynne married on August 8, 1980, five years before You Spin Me Round became a massive hit.

And despite their split Lynne has been glued to Pete's antics on BB. She even helped her ex-husband prepare for the Channel 4 show.

Lynne thinks Pete has clicked with comedian Michael Barrymore and US basketball player Dennis Rodman because he admires mavericks. And she is convinced Pete can win the show - but said it would come as a huge surprise to him.

She explained: "His biggest strength is that he's extremely entertaining and he's like that at home, it's not because the cameras are on him."

Meanwhile, Pete last night admitted he would love to attract a 97-year-old, disabled sugar-daddy by appearing on Big Brother.

He dreamed: "So I can take him outside Tiffany's and leave him there while I use his credit card before wheeling him hom

Barrymore legal threat

12 January 2006

MICHAEL Barrymore could be whisked out of the Celebrity Big Brother house if a Harlow solicitor can bring a prosecution against him.

Although Mr Barrymore is not up for eviction from Channel 4's celebrity reality series, Anthony Bennett, a self-employed rights advisor, is hoping he can force the former Strike It Lucky star out and into court.

Mr Bennett, who was a solicitor for six years until 1999, wants a drunk and disorderly charge brought against the star when he was at the Millennium nightclub in 2001.

It was there he met and invited partygoers back to his Roydon house, including Stuart Lubbock who was later found dead in Mr Barrymore's pool. He also wants Mr Barrymore questioned on the supply and possession of drugs and assault occasioning ABH.

Mr Bennett, of Chippingfield, Harlow, said: "I have written to Essex Magistrates' Court bringing a private prosecution against Mr Barrymore getting him to face a number of charges.

"If it is successful he could be whisked out of the Big Brother house.

"It could take just four days to get a summons to get Mr Barrymore out of the house and straight into court to answer questions."

Mr Bennett sent the letter on Tuesday and another to Det Sgt Tim Willis of Essex Police, who headed the original investigation. If successful, a summons will be served on the star under his real name of Michael Parker at the Big Brother house in Borehamwood, Herts.

Mr Bennett added: "I think it is in the public interest that Mr Barrymore is summoned to court to answer questions. It would be a major thing if a summons were to be issued.

"This is uncharted territory. It's a very big

case and Barrymore's lawyers will be merciless and try

every trick in the book to withdraw this."

For the case to go ahead Mr Bennett would have to liaise with Essex Police and encourage Kylie Merritt and her brother Justin, who were revellers at Mr Barrymore's home, to give evidence.

Following Stuart Lubbock's death, his father Terry, of Great Brays, Harlow, lodged a High Court writ against Mr Barrymore when he moved to New Zealand. But the writ failed because Mr Lubbock could not afford the costs.

"I hope to continue where he left off via other legal avenues," said Mr Bennett.

Dirty Dennis' mutterings reveal all

12 January 2006

It appears it is rather hard to keep a secret if you are sleeping in the same room as the person the secret is about – or at least that's the case if your name's Dennis Rodman and you're in the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The exceptionally tall basketballer is well known for his keen eye for the opposite sex, but it seems his love for the ladies continues even when he is asleep.

Dennis' fellow celeb housemates were left more than a little disturbed last night after the American appeared to start moaning at random intervals and calling Traci Bingham's name.

More worryingly, however, when Michael Barrymore's early rousing partially disturbed his shut-eye he started talking about chainsaw massacres – we sincerely hope the two mutterings were not connected.

Faria Alam certainly heard the nocturnal goings-on and wasted no time questioning Dennis about his sleep-talk.

"What were you talking about last night Dennis?" Sven's former lover asked.

But Dennis was in no mood to enter a discourse on the subject, particularly when it became clear that Traci herself had heard everything.

Whether the former Baywatch babe has reciprocal dreams tonight remains to be seen, but we suggest she steers clear of any chainsaws…

Big Brother made me an idiot
BEN JUDGE

12 January 2006

Reality game shows and celebrities are, as a rule, two things I scorn. Which is why it came as a monumental shock to discover that somehow I have turned into a Celebrity Big Brother watcher. I feel so dirty and cheap that I do it in secret. And I still haven't told the missus, who is an avid celebrity-gossip consumer.

So - why? How?

I was taken unawares. I was confined to the sofa with a bit of a cold; pumped up beyond caring with a cocktail of vitamins, decongestants and paracetamol, and my defences were down. I thought I could handle just one tiny little peek to see what George Galloway was up to (he's doing it for Palestine, apparently). It couldn't hurt, could it? George Galloway's not a real celebrity, he's a politician. Nobody need know. It's not like I'd ever do it again, or admit to anything in public.

How wrong I was. The childishness, the backbiting, the tears - they've all sucked me in. I even check Digital Spy's live update threads when I get home in case I've missed any important tantrums. Us addicts know you can't rely on the highlights show - creative editing, don't you know.

I find myself participating in inane conversations with m'learned colleagues (who really ought to know better) about whether Jodie Marsh (some sort of model, apparently - fortunately her website is blocked by TSPL's over-zealous content filter) deserves the combined wrath of Barrymore, Burns and Galloway. To be honest, I don't care. From what I can see, at least half the occupants of the CBB house deserve someone's wrath.

Jodie Marsh is an ignorant, self-obsessed whinger; Michael Barrymore's clearly only half-way through his therapy; Pete Burns is perhaps the most narcissistic man on the planet and Gorgeous George is a pompous, condescending old fool. Maggot and Preston (musicians, by the way) seem to be competing for the "most boring housemate" prize along with Rula "Im a Polish countess" Lenska (hint: look up the word "Republic"). And as for Faria Alam... more suburban housewife than celebrity, really, despite comparing notes on nighclubs in Barbados with a Baywatch actress. The two Americans seem rather bewildered by the whole thing and non-celebrity Chantelle is being pulled one way and the other between Jodie Marsh and everyone else.

The house is full of spite and vindictiveness; there is incessant screeching, whining and arguing. But that's why it's so watchable. Will Barrymore have a complete breakdown? Will Marsh's nauseating self pity win over the voting public? And how much bother is GG going to be in if he ever deigns to turn up in his constituency again?

It's all terribly exciting and I hate myself for enjoying it. I'm not quite sure how to wean myself off. I could just lie, of course, and carry on watching in secret, but then I wouldn't be able to join in any bitching sessions. It's really rather annoying, but at least I haven't voted for anyone. Yet.

Galloway set for public grilling

12 January 2006

CAMBRIDGE Arts Theatre bosses have defended their decision to host an evening with outspoken left-wing MP George Galloway when he leaves the Big Brother house.
Mr Galloway is no stranger to controversy, having said that Tony Blair has "blood on his hands" over the Iraq war, and holding meetings with Saddam Hussein during his regime in Iraq.

But since he entered the Channel 4 television show along with a host of B-list celebrities, including troubled entertainer Michael Barrymore, plastic surgery fanatic Pete Burns and cross-dressing basketball player Dennis Rodman, Galloway has come under increased fire.

Other MPs and his local constituents claim he has abandoned his political duties to take part in a cheap reality TV show.

If he manages to win over the public on the show, ticket sales are likely to soar for his one-man show at the Arts Theatre on February 12, where he will be answering questions from the audience.

But at present the theatre's marketing manager Kate Flannery says the box office has not noticed any increase in sales because of the TV show.

"We have been holding these audiences with various people who are not usually thought of as entertainers for some time and they seem to be very popular - we had Alistair Campbell last year," she said.

"It seems to provoke a lot of debate. It is not a performance in the normal sense. It's difficult to know whether if he gets evicted that will affect ticket sales.

"What will be quite good from our point of view is it may attract a difference audience in. Young people watch Big Brother and if him being here encourages some younger people to come to the theatre then that would be great.

"A lot of them feel they don't belong in this environment but this might encourage them to think differently."

Mr Galloway is one of the celebrities who has been nominated for eviction this week and will face a public vote to see if he gets the boot.

Other housemates up for eviction are 80s singer Pete Burns and glamour model Jodie Marsh.

Even before Mr Galloway's entry into the Big Brother house, the event at the Arts Theatre was causing controversy in the city.

Some theatre-goers were shocked that such a left-wing firebrand had been booked to speak - Matthew Kramer, a professor in political philosophy and Director of Law at Churchill College, wrote to the Arts Theatre to complain.

In his letter - which was printed in the News - he wrote: "I have heretofore presumed the Arts Theatre exists for the promotion of the performing arts. I cannot fathom why on February 12 it is to be put to the very different purpose of propagating noxious political views."

Mrs Flannery responded: "The point of running these audiences is it gives people the opportunity to speak to these people who they wouldn't normally come into contact with.

"I don't think it's the theatre's policy to comment on anybody else's political views.
Obviously some people will be strongly opposed to him and other people will feel the other way, but that's just the nature of political debate."
