he's a bore

Grumpy bore.

Compared to some of the dullards, he's positively glittering.

He's tried to change the way everyone perceives him lately (coming out of his shell) but it just comes across as awkward on television.

He shut up fairly quickly when Sam gave him the "with your near first" comment earlier.
He was asking for some type of comment though by trying to act hard telling Sam to go throw himself in front of a lorry.
Sam has done nothing to warrant Andrew's attitude towards him, Andrew seems to be just trying to impress Josie.
I think Sam is on to him now though,
On tonight's highlights Sam said something "Have you any more smart comments to make over there Andrew?"

I can see the 2 of them having a huge row in the near future.

Sam will win for sure: no challenge.

If by "win" you mean he'll be rude and personal and overstep the mark... then yes, you're probably right.
