The Kabin and the Corner Shop will be reduced to rubble in Corrie's tram crash carnage.

In the most sensational scenes ever filmed for the soap the tram will wipe out drinkers inside new bar The Joinery after it plunges off the viaduct.

Special-effects experts who worked on Hollywood blockbuster Gladiator and Doctor Who have been called in to mastermind the scenes. Bosses are refusing to tell the cast who will die in the bloodbath, to be screened in December to mark the show's 50th anniversary.

But favourite characters such as The Kabin's Rita, played by Barbara Knox, 76, and elderly bachelor Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden, 70) are among those who could be killed off. Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin 46), and wife Sunita (Shobna Gulati, 32), who run the Corner Shop are also at risk.

Corrie legend Jack Duckworth, played by Bill Tarmey, 69, who will definitely die, is expected to be in The Joinery when the tram - which has featured in the Corrie titles for nine years - crashes.

A Corrie insider said: "It will be total carnage and the scenes will make incredible viewing. The producers want to make it the most dramatic episode Coronation Street has ever shown and they are pulling out all the stops. The Kabin and the Corner Shop will both be destroyed along with the bar.

"The producers haven't yet decided which characters will be inside so everyone feels like an axe is dangling over their head.

There are rumours that up to a dozen stars could be killed off. It's going to be a bloodbath."

Charles Lawson, 54, who has returned as Jim McDonald, said: "I wouldn't be surprised if Jim is among those to go. I might go to William Hill and see what the odds are!"

New producer Phil Collinson, who will meet Corrie stars on Friday to tell them about the plans, is expected to use the crash to introduce new characters.

The source said: "There is a feeling among the top brass that Coronation Street needs to come into the 21st Century a bit more.

"They want the show to look a lot different next year."

Aye, the Joinery bar is a great plot device, there will be lots of people in there, I can imagine the entrance to it will be blocked by the tram and the rubble too

I wonder what will happen to the Corner Shop and Kabin in 2011?

Smithy 15-08-2010 12:49 PM

They get re-built?

Scarlett. 15-08-2010 12:58 PM

I think the Kabin might, but the Corner Shop, I dunno

Well a lot more people are excited about this one than the campaign to save the cobbles, this storyline actually leads somewhere too

You missed that article then Chewy.

Rosie is gonna get her end away with Jason in the most steamy scenes ever in Corrie history to be shown in October.

Their gonna be ripping each other's clothes off and she will be making noises lol.

Scarlett. 15-08-2010 04:11 PM

lmao I see! :D

but then, papers always bill things as "HOTTEST SCENES EVER" and...well...there is no "hot" scenes xD

RichardWells 15-08-2010 04:16 PM

Corrie bosses are expecting a huge backlash of complaints apparently but basically they don't care lol.

Scarlett. 15-08-2010 04:18 PM

lol heard that one a number of times too! I think the papers just have sentences they copy and paste :p still, I think it's a great idea for a relationship
