I've Decided To Support A Different Team

I used to support Man United but I didn't enjoy the lackluster performances last season. So i've decided to start supporting Chelsea because they are in the Champions League and play good football.

Has anyone else switched clubs? What's it like? Did you start enjoy football more?

King Gizzard 29-08-2010 12:08 AM

 Thats a deadly sin.

Why? :conf:

30stone 29-08-2010 12:12 AM

Well done, Man united is like the default for people who "support" football lol.

Anyway.

No, mydad has always liked Arsenal since he was young (and reading) so since like the age of 4 -5 ive always liked Arsenal, and although i wet off football for like 3 years, i always checked the Arsenal scores lol.

King Gizzard 29-08-2010 12:13 AM

Its just

I could never switch teams now...a football teams for life for me (allbeit when i was about 5 i switched teams for a bit)

especially for another team because they are better than the team youre supporting

But it's up to you lol

Locke. 29-08-2010 12:15 AM

Can't really call yourself a supporter if you're just gonna change clubs like that... but because it's Man Utd I'll let you off.

How can you not call me a real supporter? I watch every game my team plays on television and keep up to date with all the teams transfers.

But what if they started playing badly like Man United last season? Surely you would want to support a better team.

Locke. 29-08-2010 12:25 AM

Because there isn't any loyalty.

King Gizzard 29-08-2010 12:27 AM

Nope, stick with my club through thick and thin

and it is pretty god damn awful atm (villa fan)

Why do you support Villa? They are crap and hardly ever win. You should support a team that wins more often such as Chelsea so you can enjoy Football more.

MTVN 29-08-2010 12:46 AM

Are you just taking the mick here :conf:

Because it doesnt sound feasible, just wanting to spontaneously switch teams, and your motive for doing so, unless you're 10 years old or something in which case I would understand

First off you say you havent enjoyed the lacklustre performances this season; we're 3 games in for christs sake

Second Man U have had two 3-0 victories alreay which isnt exactly "lacklustre"

Thirdly, you supposedly cant comprehend why anyone would want to support a team that isnt winning everything

And finally, you seem to struggle with the whole concept of being a fan and having loyalty to a team

So I think either:
a) you're quite young
b) you're very new to football
c) you're taking the mick

Which one is it?

I meant last season, when Man United lost to Besiktas, Everton, Fulham, Chelsea, Liverpool and Leeds United!!!

None.

a) I'm 18.
b) I've been following football since I was 8 years old.
c) Like I said before, why would I be taking the mick? :conf:

Ah right I see, you're a glory hunter....

Sorry but can't stand 'football fans' like that.

Well then, I cant see how a keen football fan can so flippantly just switch the team he is a fan of when they lose a few games. It's contradictory to the whole principle of being a fan - you stick with your team, through the good times and the bad (although you still won the league cup and finished second in the premiership by one point), you dont jump ship just because a couple of games dont go your way

How long have you been a Man Utd fan then, do you really feel no sense of loyalty at all towards your club?

30stone 29-08-2010 09:29 AM

What i find funniest, is man united were the second most succesful english club last season, and that isnt good enough?

Chelsea lost to wigan last season..

Mark 29-08-2010 10:42 AM

I've supported Liverpool for ages, but now I work at Coventry City FC so I follow them equally. I just say I support Liverpool in Premier league, and CCFC in the Championship.

If they were to ever get in the same league (unlikely as I don't think CCFC will get promoted, and Liverpool won't get relegated), I don't know what I'd do :)

Chels 29-08-2010 11:03 AM

I ****ing hate football 'fans' like you, just in it for the glory. Support your local team, it makes sense.

The real CCFC = Cardiff City ;)

Cov are shyte to be honest

GiRTh 29-08-2010 11:16 AM

To OP, Why dont you just watch football instead of trying to support a team. I dont think you truly understand sport or you dont realise your standards are ridiculously high. Become a generic supporter and not a specific supporter cuz I dont think you have the loyalty to stay with one team.

danda012 29-08-2010 11:22 AM

So just because they only won one trophy last season, you decided to swap clubs and support Chelsea?

I'm sorry but you should really be ashamed of yourself. A true supporter of the club would stick with the club through thick and thin. You sound like someone who just supports a club for the glory when really there is a lot more than just winning titles.

edit:
So winning the League Cup isn't enough for you combined with finishing second in one of the closest title races in years?

30stone 29-08-2010 11:25 AM

Man united won carling cup..
So not even a thophyless season lol..

We've let in 9 goals in our first three games, I'd take all the help we can get

He'd single-handedly let 5 in per game for you, if he's not good enough for us he's not good enough for you; he's just a fat clueless bench-warming scouse tosser :)

He's discovered the local pies unfortunately, and he was seen out pissed the night before the Sheffield Utd game this season. Not a professional attitude at all, doesn't look after himself so there's no wonder he doesn't play anymore.

His attitude is appalling too causing arguments with fans after the game, not sure if he does that there but he did with us, he thought he was too good for walsall and towards the end so did we but from what you say obvs not :)

He has actually, not with fans but with teamates. He's caused a few rifts amongst them as he wasn't chosen to start in the play-off final, DJ (our manager) has hated him ever since and won't play him, which is a good thing because he's crap and costs us goals anyway. DJ's looking to offload him asap by the looks of things :) he's not good enough for this league and yes his attitude is disgusting.

King Gizzard 29-08-2010 01:29 PM

I can appreciate and like watching teams play, doesnt mean i'm going to go support them

Gotta have that club thats ALWAYS there and you have pride in supporting them

I'd get the ****e ripped out of me for saying i'm switching to chelsea, my friends would actually be pissed at me (and they arent even villa fans)

bbfan1991 29-08-2010 01:56 PM

By where I live i've had people say why do you support Man United when you don't even live near Manchester?, ironically enough some of those people support Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal so I could have said the same thing back:p.

At the end of the day we're all entitled to support the team we want:).

That isn't the point we are trying to make. I don't live anywhere near Newcastle yet i still support them. The point we are trying to make is that it seems wrong to change the club you support JUST because you don't win any of the MAJOR trophies (FA Cup, Premiership and CL). It is almost like saying.. oh you didn't win anything.. this club isnt good enough.. i don't like you any more.

To put it bluntly it can easily be seen as betraying a team you so called supported just for a team who "wins" more titles.
