how will channel 4 survive now big brothers ended?

because lets face it its easily the most watched show on channel 4,so now they have canceled it how the hell are channel 4 going to survive when all the other shows struggle to get 1 million viewers? i think channel 4 were silly making this decision for buisiness sense.

Jack_ 10-09-2010 10:53 PM

How will C4 survive now Big Brother has ended? They won't.

Scarlett. 10-09-2010 10:57 PM

Easy, they have plenty of other shows, sure there will be a hole without BB, but they will fill it

Maia 10-09-2010 11:00 PM

Channel 4 will die. I'm only gonna tune into it now for Deal or No Deal and Countdown pretty much. Other than that, it'll have nothing going for it.

Vicky. 10-09-2010 11:02 PM

They will now have time to show some more friends repeats...we haven't seen them all yet. Everything is good :D

LaLaLand 10-09-2010 11:02 PM

They're stupid for axing it to be fair. So what if it's "not as popular as it was", it's what C4 is known for primarily and it still manages to pull in decent ratings for a 'secondary channel'.

I think they'll look back and regret this in all honesty.

Scarlett. 10-09-2010 11:04 PM

Channel 4 always **** up good shows, look at BB's precursor, Brookside, axed to make way for BB

SocietyIsRuined 10-09-2010 11:09 PM

They have no other show as they cannot compete with Sky. In five years time, most shows will be downloadebale. Another format will hit with the new consoles which will include games only downloadable. But it's not only C4, the others will be in the same mess too.

Murdoch (owner of Fox) will basically change the future of broadcasting and most of the old terrestrial will go. Pay per view will become the way unfortunately.

Channel 4 had long ago strayed from its original remit - now that BB's finished, it'll become another C5 .....

Quote:

Channel 4 is a British public-service television broadcaster which began working on 2 November 1982. Although largely commercially self-funded, it is ultimately publicly owned; originally a subsidiary of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA), the station is now owned and operated by the Channel Four Television Corporation, a public body established in 1990, coming into operation in 1993.

The channel was established to provide a fourth television service to the United Kingdom that would break the duopoly of the Television licence-funded BBC's two established services and the single commercial broadcasting network, ITV.

Channel 4 was established with, and continues to hold, a remit of public service obligations which it must fulfil.

The preamble of the remit as per the Communications Act 2003 states that:

"The public service remit for Channel 4 is the provision of a broad range of high quality and diverse programming which, in particular:

* demonstrates innovation, experiment and creativity in the form and content of programmes;
* appeals to the tastes and interests of a culturally diverse society;
* makes a significant contribution to meeting the need for the licensed public service channels to include programmes of an educational nature and other programmes of educative value; and
* exhibits a distinctive character."

The remit also involves an obligation to provide programming for schools, and a substantial amount of programming produced outside of Greater London.

Not really, we have VoD now, but 30m or more still choose to watch TV

Jamie..... 10-09-2010 11:12 PM

There is always Friends :p

But there are some alright programmes - Deal or No Deal + Coach Trip and Hollyoaks is fairly popular

hollyoaks cant even pull 1 million anymore.

Jordan. 10-09-2010 11:17 PM

I hope whatever they replace BB with next year is a complete flop.

Mac Hiavellian 10-09-2010 11:17 PM

I don't know what Shameless' ratings are like but series 8 is 22 eps and I'd imagine more Cutting Edge shows, Million Pound Drop and hopefully, they'll finally pull their finger out and deliver the revamped Friday Night Project that's bene rumoured for a year

Except it neared 2m on Monday :p

C4 may not be good, but Channel 4 can depend on E4, More4 and Film4

the-gaffer 10-09-2010 11:23 PM

I'm hoping that Channel Four actually begin to use their imagination now and actually use the talent coming through the ranks in both writers and actors and start producing good Comedy/Drama/Entertainment programs and since they basically gave birth to Reality TV they can now be the ones to kill it off

Big_Kahuna 10-09-2010 11:27 PM

Gorgon Ramsey will be jizzing in his pants

Marsh. 10-09-2010 11:28 PM

Shameless is doing another series with 22 episodes? God, they really don't know when enough is enough. It outstayed its welcome after series 3/4

Tbh, I prefor channel 4 over many over channels.

Here are a few programme's that i find to be popular...

The Inbetweeners
Missfits
Friends
Coach Trip
Big Bang Theory
Hollyoaks
Simpsons
This is england 86

I dont see why you think they wont survive, their far bigger than many over channels for example BBC

only programme's i watch on bbc are

Young Dumb and living off mum.
Eastenders.

Then you have ITV

XFACTOR
Britains got talent
Coronation Street

Channel 4 is by far the biggest channel of the free channels =D

icecakes 10-09-2010 11:54 PM

come dine with me,seems to be their new thing, probably a lot cheaper, they only win £1000

MTVN 11-09-2010 12:05 AM

Friends is being cancelled as well...

C4 are apparently using what they spend on BB to invest in new dramas, not sure how succesful that'll be

Yeah, part of me fears/hopes it's the last series the way it's been going tbh. It picked up a little last year when they got rid of a load of S4-6 characters but they're bringing Monica back for the first ep of S8 I believe. :(

Maybe something big will happen for it's 100th episode

Callum 11-09-2010 12:07 AM

Skins, True Blood. Two other shows which do well on Channel 4.
