Looking for something to fill that BB void?

Well here is your answer,

The Real World: New Orleans

If you don't know the format of Real World, it is basically 8 strangers from across America move to a particular city to live in a house for 3 months. Each housemate loves to party but also has underlying issues that are bound to come out, from a drug addict to a domestic abuse victim and even to someone with an ear fetish.

This is the first episode of the season - http://www.megavideo.com/?d=GWW8M21R

I lasted about ten minutes. What obnoxious ****.

Claymores 11-09-2010 09:14 AM

I'm hooked already - sounds thrilling - honest. A bunch of unemployable Americans doing nothing - any interesting twists or do they still remain a bunch of unemployed americans?

Really you should wait 10 minutes after the op is posted before you make such a comment.

Did they all show their inner feelings and get employed after 10 minutes? Wow - impressive show

They work for a homeless charity and help build a house for a victim of hurricane Katrina.

I watched one episode and couldn't get into it. When I have free time, I'll give it a chance and try and watch more episodes.

I prefer Jersey Shore. I got hooked onto that straight away and it seems more entertaining.

What makes you think I was talking about the link? I watched it before. It just doesn't scratch the same itch for me. Liking one reality show doesn't mean you are going to like them all.

Obnoxious, unemployed Americans who are only filmed sometimes.

Thrilling.

Moved, wrong section.

Thank christ they don't let the unemployable sit around doing nothing then. Sounds an absolute thriller. Can I sign-up to live stream?

It isn't in real time, they can't do it live because the housemates would just get crowded on the street.

New Orleans is a lot more volatile than Brooklyn and they are totally owning Jersey Season 2 right now, maybe you should try that.

No.
This is a thread about Big Brother and guiding people to the light.
Move it back please.

ILoveTRW 11-09-2010 09:36 AM

I find it hilarious how people are snobby about The Real World, yet watch Big Brother :conf:

You don't know **** about the show, don't be calling it 'fake' because it's not.

Big Sexy 11-09-2010 08:45 PM

Exactly, Iceman. That's why The Real World's wikipedia article is completely free of a section critical of it's authenticity.

Oh wait ...

Tom4784 12-09-2010 01:32 AM

My feelings on the Real World are well known to ILoveTRW, it's pretentious and staged like ALL MTV 'Reality shows' if you have to watch one of them go for Jersey Shore, the cast and everyone involved know it's bullsh*t but it's still a guilty pleasure and fun to watch because they don't make out that it's real or take themselves seriously.

Chilltown 12-09-2010 01:58 AM

MTV is the biggest network out there for staged reality shows. There's been absolutely zero quality in The Real World since they cracked maybe season 11 or so. It's the same group of kids, they do the same old thing. They'll have young adults who constantly party and have sex with one another, some with flaws like drug addiction or anorexia.

It's trash and not even 'fun' enjoyable trash like The Jersey Shore or the VH1 Dating Shows.

King Gizzard 12-09-2010 02:01 AM

No thank you. Agreed with many of the other posters in this thread.

ILoveTRW 12-09-2010 10:57 PM

God people on here are so ignorant.
Why would someone pretend to the world that they are racist?
Why would someone spend the last few months of their life on a 'fake reality show'?
I'm not going to lie, some aspects are fake but only the same aspects that are fake in Big Brother and Jersey Shore.

For their 15 minutes of fame and the few magazine inches they'll get out of it.

I've gone into this before but RW is filmed months in advance, the cast have regular interaction with the crew as there's a camera crew with them (and not behind glass or in a way or in a way they can't interact like on BB). Even if the crew doesn't tell them how to act (which is hard to believe) the constant presence is bound to change how people act while on BB the HM's can't see the camera people so they relax easier. Given that a lot of doubt has been cast over the Real World by ex contestants and such and they ADMITTED to faking the reaction to 9/11, then it's not ignorant to not take everything in the Real World as potentially faked.

The point about BB is also a pretty terrible point, if it was faked in any way it wouldn't have been kept a secret after 10 years, a housemate or an ex employee would have said so but after 19 series and nearly 300 HMs, nothing of the sort has been said.

As for Jersey Shore, everyone and their dog knows it's fake, nobody's ever said it was real. I just like it because it knows what it is and they don't try to act like any of it's real.

Yes I agree, but BB housemates are pressurised by the baying crowd into acting a certain way which never happens on TRW.

The housemates were not faking there reactions they showed them the clip and they reacted in the way they reacted the producers never made out as though they were watching it live.

Loads and loads of housemates have complained about editing over the years, just as TRW housemates have. No Real World housemate has ever called the show scripted.

Tom4784 13-09-2010 12:20 AM

There's a difference between edited and faked though and I don't think the crowd really changes anything on BB as a person's really personality will shine through in the end. as for the 9/11 thing, that was obviously EVERYWHERE and the contestants in RW do have contact with the outside, it's a bit suspicious that upto the point the clip was shown they hadn't seen it before. Given the fact that it's shot a few months in advance and there isn't 24 hour footage available it wouldn't be a stretch to say that the directors and producers might tell them how to act and given the people that go on MTV 'reality' shows it isn't a stretch that they'd go along with anything as long as it got them a bit of cheap fame and money.

ILoveTRW 13-09-2010 01:05 AM

As far as I'm concern the things that happen on TRW are impossible to fake and if it is fake these kids should be getting emmys.
