Celebrity Big Brother will NOT return to C4!

It has been confirmed that Celebrity Big Brother will not be returning to Channel 4 in January.

We reported the other day that Celebrity Big Brother could return to Channel 4 next year after the Daily Star rumoured on-going talks amongst Channel 4 and Endemol.

This news came just before we found out that Endemol UK had secured planning permission to keep the Big Brother house until September 2013.

A Channel 4 and Big Brother press officer confirmed by Twitter that the show will not return. Kate Conway said:

“Celebrity Big Bro not returning to C4 in January…despite the rumours.”

Some may find this as a real damper, however, it opens possible doors for keen buyer Channel Five to revive the show.

It has now been made very clear that the intentions made in the last series by Channel 4, in regards to advertising was definitely a way of burying Big Brother from their screens.

We have not heard anything from Channel Five for the past few days about negotiating a deal with Endemol to broadcast the programme, however, the Daily Star, which is owned by Richard Desomed, owner of Channel Five have been keeping a close tab on Big Brother.

Here's to HOPE for C5.

Well.. it was a great story and 'last hope' sort thing but it was very clear from the UBB/Send off/Last Supper that C4 is done.

I would have been VERY surprised to find out that in just a few more months C4 lets everyone know its all back on with another CBB.
In fact I think a lot of viewers would not take them seriously and nearly 'resent' such a thing.

I can't even see C5 showing up in a few months with their version of CBB either although that would be more likely I suppose.

But yeah.. it would have been very strange and i think people would take it like that 'boy who cried wolf' way.

It is a kind of 'vacuum' now and that 'winter event' won't be happening. If anyone else does do BB I wonder if suspect they may not even attempt a CBB for a while.
Just focus on doing their version of a regular Summer project.

(or hey.. maybe BB will become a winter season? that may get more viewers who are inside more often?)

But yeah.. I know the feeling even though I wasn't a big follower of the CBB I enjoyed the last 2 quite a bit!

NEW YORK :D

They should get her on CBB8 :D

It would have been utterly ridiculous after all the fuss of the big goodbye for Ch4 to then go and do another CBB in Jan !

InOne 15-09-2010 01:13 PM

Yeah, would've been silly to bring it back on C4 after all the funeral nonsense. Plus they'd only get shiit names anyway.

Glad it's not happening tbh - it would only have ruined the final send-off.

What would Ch4 have done anyway? PEJ's left Endemol now hasn't he? Would Davina have come back? And the producers would have a limited time to secure decent celebs.

I consulted an expert on planning applications over this, and the most likely explanation of how the rumours flew on this was that someone a while back put in applications for planning concent before a decision to cancel the show was taken. What we saw was these residual planning applications coming to light.

Businesses do this all the time, putting in planning applications for projects that are sometimes never followed through.
