New Devil May Cry Announced and it's a Reboot.

During tonight's event at the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced a new Devil May Cry title is in development. The game was listed as just "DMC" on the presentation screen and is considered a reboot for the series.

The game is being developed by Capcom USA in conjunction with Ninja Theory, creators of Enslaved and Heavenly Sword. Producer for the project is Alex Jones, based out of Capcom's San Mateo branch called CEI. Capcom Japan is overseeing the project.

"I'm very grateful and humbled to work with Capcom on such an important project," said Ninja Theory Creative Director Tameem Antoniades. "We hope to make a game even Dante would be proud of."

Alex Jones, who was also in attendance, said it was too early to talk about release dates. The game is just being called Devil May Cry, however the logo says 'DMC' in graffiti style art. No platforms were announced, this is a console game.

It's got an impressive team behind it but I'm mostly interested in the main character, is it someone brand new or a redesigned Dante? Given the mostly badly recieved history of adding new playable characters to the series or changing Dante in any, it's a brave move.

I really like the look of this, I only got into DMC recently

It's got potential but DMC's not a good series for change really, DMC2 was terrible because of Lucia and the fact they turned Dante into a charmless serious person and I thought DMC4 was a bit iffy because of Nero.

DMC3 was the best as it brought back the excellent gameplay, made it deeper & better and brought back the Dante everyone knows & loves.

I do quite like the stylings of this one but If Dante's not in it or they've changed his personality dramatically then I predict it'll alienate the core crowd. I can't wait to see a trailer though as I did enjoy Heavenly sword from what I played of it.

Reboots can be good if done well, SHSM was a good reboot (though they continued with the old series they have incorparated SHSM stuff in the new one) no doubt there will be complaint's it's not Japanese

I'm not saying Reboots are a bad thing it's just that they should remember what made the series popular in the first place and not try to reinvent the wheel, I'm pretty sure the character's Dante (the red jacket is pretty telling) I just hope they don't change his character too much as they'll just end up with DMC2 again. The gameplay is undoubtedly gonna be good given Ninja Theory's track record I'm more worried about the style and the characters really as they're popular for a reason.

I've found the trailer on Youtube as that site's player is a bit ropey.

After seeing the trailer I've got mixed feelings, I can see this just being a one off like SHSM or the Prince of Persia reboot they did 2 years back. You can definitely tell it's a western influenced Dante and I quite like the design although I'm not keen on the urban style, it looks a bit desperate. I quite like the look of that sword/spear/whip thing he was using though, I'll be interested to see the gameplay mechanics behind it. I'm definitely intrigued to see more.

Though I might not have if they hadn't changed Dante from the above posts. like ew.
