The Road to Coronation Street - BBC Four?

Anybody see this earlier tonight?

I loved it, I thought it was so nostalgic and was great how the BBC acknowledged Corrie for what it is, 'legendary'.

Jessie Wallace was outstanding and almost unrecognisable as Pat Phoenix and Lynda Baron was the SPIT of Ena Sharples.

Great show but I thought it would have been better on BBC One or Two because not alot of the 'older generation' who perhaps witnessed the debut of Coronation Street may not have access to BBC Four? IDK just my thoughts on it but yeah.

Really enjoyed it!

I recorded it

I need to watch it on the iPlayer, was working

^ It was REALLY good, can't stress enough. I think you'll love it seeing as you're (I presume) a huge Coronation Street fan?

Scarlett. 16-09-2010 10:52 PM

lol yeah, I saw a bit of the start, Tony Warren is a really nice man, so it's good seeing a drama about him

It was a brilliant piece of television. So brilliant to see how it all began and all the trouble they had with commissioning it. It was funny seeing an Eastenders actress in a programme about Coronation Street though lol

And Bill Roaches son (who recently appeared in Corrie) playing Bill Roache lol

Yeah and originally he just thought it would be a stepping stone to a successful acting career in Hollywood, but he ended up being the longest serving cast member and the only original member left.:joker:

lol, it's a great history to the show, can't wait to see it, it looks like the drama of the year

It's on in 15 minutes for those who missed it, on BBC Four, I'm watching it again for sure.

This drama was fantastic.

Who knew what a hardship it was to get the executives to commission the show.

Imagine if Corrie had never happened.

Brilliant. Fantastic cast too: Jessie Wallace, Lynda Baron and Sophia Di Martino. Weird that it was on BBC4 though.

Just found out that there were various connections with Corontion Street and the actors that I didn't know about.

The cleaner lady Agnes is Antony Cotton's mother and the lady on the desk Brenda was played by Michelle Holmes who was in Coronation Street as Tina Fowler!

Anyone spot any other Corrie alumni?

Smithy 18-09-2010 11:56 PM

The guy who played William Roach, is actually William roaches son, and he was in Coronation street a couple of weeks ago playing Kens Grandson

LaLaLand 18-09-2010 11:57 PM

^ Of course, it's amazing how similar they are isn't it?!

Watched it earlier today, was very enjoyable. Started off a bit slow but I thought the cast was brilliant.

Finally watched it this evening. I loved it, it started a little slow, but I understood that was how it was back then. I guess I was waiting for the main cast to come along, and when they did I was loving it, to a point where I found it quite emotional at the end.

The sound of the theme tune came & all I wanted to do was sit and watch the first 6 episodes.

Great casting, Jessie Wallace & Linda Baron stole the show for me.
