I wish Fame Academy would return...

...and no, not the Celebrity version. The original was better. After reading about it a couple of days ago, it reminded me of just how good it was.

It had 24/7 Live coverage, Highlight shows, the 'students' were encouraged to write their own songs and music, were given musical education [vocal coaching, songwriting lessons, fitness/dance classes, workshops with professionals]. The format was also pretty tense, with there being a 'Bottom Three', the Judges saving one, and the other students saving the other. It was similar to Big Brother in the sense that they were completely cut off from the outside world, and were filmed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Here's an extract from the Wikipedia article:

Quote:

Fame Academy claimed to emphasise the creative talent of the contestants, (called "students" on the show) who were encouraged to write their own songs and music as well as developing their singing technique and performing skills. Inside the Academy for a period of ten weeks, the students were given a complete musical education. This included individual vocal coaching, songwriting lessons, personal development, fitness/dancing classes, and workshops with professionals. The students stayed at Witanhurst, an historic Georgian-style mansion in Highgate that was specially redressed for the series. They were provided with dormitory-style living accommodation, communal meals and recreation areas.

The programme was filmed as a reality TV show in the Big Brother format, with the students being completely cut off from the outside world, and not allowed to leave the "Academy" without supervision. The contestants were televised constantly through a vast network of cameras that were monitored 24 hours a day. Viewers of the streaming programmes were able to watch almost everything going on behind the scenes. Singing lessons, dance classes, rehearsals and costume fittings were all filmed, as well as the daily life of the contestants from waking up to going to sleep. This also included mealtimes, relaxation periods and "private" moments. The social interaction between the students, and the growing tensions as their numbers dwindled, added to the interest of the show week by week and highlights of the live streaming, heavily edited, were also shown as part of the CBBC and BBC Three spin-off programmes and on the weekly showdown.
I loved the show at the time, but never realised just how good it was. I'd love them to bring it back.

I loved Fame Academy so much.

It was awesome. Plus they weren't moulded into boring Leonas. (although David Sneddon hardly set the world alight)

I loved Fame Academy, it was so fresh and original to see singer SONGWRITERS in a competition and not just half-arsed "I want to be #1" robots. You could tell all of them were passionate, a great show.

I loved Alex Parks and that crazy Peter who later dated Fearne Cotton, remember him?

& of course LEMAR who's still quite big today and he came 3rd didn't he?

Well Lemar's had 7 top-10 singles, whereas Leona's had 6.

See, you can manipulate statistics to mean anything you want. But I was talking in a matter of personality, of credibility or interest. You can't really measure that. But if you want me to, I've got plenty more stats like the one above ready to mould :)

Not to mention he's won 2 BRIT awards (Leona none) and 3 MOBOs (Leona 2).

And? When you compare the two shows, she is boring. On Fame Academy they were encouraged to write their own songs and music, and be more creative. On X Factor they are encouraged to cover songs, sit back, let a songwriter do all of the work, and then just turn up to offer the vocal.

And I remember you saying a few months ago you liked The Killers, so that's a major fail. And who mentioned The Killers? ROFL :joker:

Statistics mean nothing, at least he has charisma and passion. Anyone can be Leona, it's just how well the "big guys" want to package you at the end of the day brother.

Also, you seemed to bypass the awards list, probably a wise decision.

Jords 19-09-2010 02:15 PM

MMI you have to stop being so defensive over Leona Lewis, shes done great, we all know that, but people can still have different opinions on her.....

MeMyselfAndI 19-09-2010 02:15 PM

Shaun leonas sold 5x more - so i win
and Leonas been Nominated 6 times for BRITS.
and should of won best song and best newcomer and best female atist and best album tbf

Jack_ 19-09-2010 02:15 PM

Cannot believe it has returned, I thought we'd got rid of it for good :(

Anyone can be Lemar at the end of the day - he hasn't got the singing talent
not everyone has leonas voice

when Lemar breaks america tell me

arista 19-09-2010 02:16 PM

Jack the BBC
has left all that.

Now ITV, Ch5
and Sky1 have taken over all of it.

The bloated BBC gives you old stuff like S. Come Dancing
they are No longer leading TV in the UK.

She hasn't broke America, America's a big place. People in certain parts don't know who she is still. The Spice Girls were the last UK act to 'break America' and Leona is nowhere near as popular.

The general consensus now is that she's a one trick pony who stays safe with warbling ballads and if I remember correctly her version of 'Run' was voted "Most depressing song" on the internet somewhere.

I'll try locate a source but don't hold hope.

Umm Leona has had 3 Platinum Singles in the UK last decade
(A Moment Like This, Bleeding Love, Run)

NO OTHER artist did that

therefore she can't be a 1 trick pony :xyxwave:
