What's so wrong with being a romantic?

I've been on this forum for 5 years and I've been obsessed with my fair amount of BB couples. And every single time I get called stupid and naive and whatever else. I get belittled for believing a couple off Big Brother can be real. I'm a bit fed up with it to honest, you have your opinions and I have mine, there's no need to treat me like an idiot just cos I'm not cynical about every single Big Brother couple in existence.

But what is wrong with believing in a couple?? Yeah you might not like them but why pick on me?? I've been obsessed before,I know a lot of them they can break up,it doesn't mean I can't like them for the time being. What is it that is so disgusting and horrifying to a lot of you about fans of Big Brother couples???

Nothing, but on big brother its clearly fake most of the time.

Marsh. 22-09-2010 09:18 PM

Paul and Helen. Believable and real.
Grace and Mikey. Not believable to me at all, Grace came across very camera aware but they've proved it was real because they're married now.
All the others were pretty much showmances or just fancying each other a bit. Couples in scripted shows are more real.

Remember Ziggy? Sweetened Chanelle up, fucked her (without realising Carole was in the next bed, then dumped her.
And then got a lecture about not using condoms lol

I like couples on TV aswell. I think they are cute. :')

GypsyGoth 22-09-2010 09:19 PM

I think being romantic is much better than being cynical.

Exactly! Me too.

I think people are more cynical about BB than romances. They know that these days people were only in it for the cash

Twilight 22-09-2010 09:21 PM

Sorry, but how the fuck can anyone be in love after 2 days of knowing each other? and its obvious that they just want the money.

2 days? More like 73 I think it was. 24/7.

I don't know of a couple that were together after two days (?).
But I know lots of housemates have said how they came out of the house knowing a hell of a lot more about the other housemates than many of their friends because of the 24/7 for three months solid.

Ssophie and Kris were about 2 days before they kissed, maybe it was 3 days, i'm not sure though :/

Personally I think being realistic and using my intelligence is much better than being gullible and being made a fool of! Each to their own I guess!

Blowed if I would allow such people to use me to help line their pockets and give them the attention they so obviously crave!

Real life is so much more interesting and fun - or at least it should be!

Jords 22-09-2010 09:32 PM

Nothing wrong with being romantic, but believing in couples, espicially those that form on a reality TV show is a different story tbh. People act up to the cameras because they know its what the public (some of them anyway..) want to see, so you should take them with a pinch of salt in general. Theres a few I believed were true mind.

So you're saying that just because I like a couple I'm guillble and an idiot? Right so believing in love makes you stupid, seems a bit silly really doesn't it?

People should be able to spend their money on whatever they want. And you're allowed to like a couple and enjoy 'real life'. Feck sake it doesn't all have to be so extreme.

Well I never did see Sophie and Kris but there is a difference between couples like them and Sezer and Imogen and whoever else than couples like Helen and Paul and Grace and Mikey. People have to stop putting every single Big Brother couple into one big caterogy of 'fake'.

Beastie 22-09-2010 09:38 PM

In terms of BB.. nowadays people go in for a romance for the £££££.

I am not cynical about every couple though! Helen and Paul lasted 5 years. Sophie and that black dude from bb3 got together and had a baby together!
Grace and Mikey.. can't believe it but they are married!!!! I believe they are obviously in love with each other. Also they hardly do any interviews together.. they went back to their ordinary careers.

Josie and John James though... it's just that John did treat Josie like crap a bit in the house and I just don't believe that.

Preston and Chantelle.. I don't believe in them. They were genuine first time around but now.. they just want all the magazine deals with £££££. Maybe Chantelle still likes Preston.. but they married and got divorced. They both deserve someone else.

To be honest I really wish Pete from bb7 was in Ultimate BB. I loved him and Nikki as a couple. I thought I saw a nice spark when I saw them together in Ultimate BB when Pete was a part of that task :) They are just friends now though but I find them both adorable with each other and they are both interesting and entertaining characters on their own too!

Sophie and Kris from bb10.. what a joke. That's all I can say

So.. there is a mixture really. Some genuine.. some obviously in to cash in on the magazine deals.

If BB12 comes back.. I mean yeah.. you know what.. I would LOVE to see a genuine romance blossom.. like Helen and Paul when it was sweet and innocent and not being boring farts under the covers all the time...

Anyway in this day and age. Romance is usually just a quick honeymoon period. After that the romance is DEAD.

Amen

Mikey and Grace are a good example of people staying together. And yes, we disagree on the couples things Laura but I don't insult you over it or think you're any less intelligent. I try to look at it from the best of both views! Hope you didn't think I've been insulting at all!

Being able to distinguish between real love - and that 'put together' for a tv show for the obvious rewards - is real and intelligent!

Just believing every couple on a tv show that claims to be 'in love' (when this will obviously help them get airtime) - because you want to believe it - is not so intelligent!

Then to keep harping on about how lovely and wonderful they are - when most other people can see that they are not - is downright annoying! You asked!

So you're that EVERY SINGLE couple who meets on a telly show can't be actually in love? But how do you even know?

I don't think EVERY couple is real,in the last 11 years of BB I say there was about 9ish real couples(off the top of my head). I don't believe it cos I want to believe it,I believe it cos what I see in front of my eyes to me is real. For some couple anyways.

And I'm gonna 'harp on' on about lovely and wonderful I think they are all I fecking want, there's enough hate on this place for them to last a lifetime.

Kissing someone and declaring your love for someone are two very different things though.
