Geocaching - anyone ever done it?

http://www.geocaching.com/

My German couple took me one night and it was really exciting............caches are just small boxes with rubbish and a notebook. You sign the notebook, take something and leave something else. Andrea and Torsten were leaving silly little torches for next finders.

We found 2 in one evening - one at a train station, the next at a church.

I would start playing in the UK but the problem is that you need a GPS which I don't have

I thought it would be pish Jase and jf but it was really quite exciting! My friends had looked for the one at the train station 4 times and failed.....Ian was the good luck charm with fresh ideas of where to look.

Not sure if that would be true - the German couple I know have made one and it's on a bridge and been there since 2005. They showed me this one first to try to give me an idea what the game entailed. It had junk like old keys and such in it but the notebook was signed up to about 30 pages worth.

I made a boo-boo the first one we found as I got really excited and cheered, and they told me to be quiet as nobody is supposed to know or spot what you are doing (so the cache doesn't get stolen by some numpty after you've returned it to the hiding place)

I never heard of it before, sounds good. But I don't have a gps.

The couple I know do it for a hobby Lee. Or when Torsten is working away from home and stuck in a hotel not knowing anyone, he does it instead of going to a bar alone or watching TV in his hotel bedroom. The website seems a little misleading as many caches are in very urban locations, not in forests or mountains.........so can be urban exploration which I know you've talked of.

It also caters for kids, wheelchair users, all people

I'm gonna buy a GPS and make a cache for Torsten and Andrea to find when in Fife!

I guess you are correct Jase - the whole thing was new to me TBH, but I did like it. The thrill of finding the church one was immense as my pals were clueless of where to look and I got it in 2 minutes
