Why Has Christmas Music Been Abandoned In Today's Music Industry?
The Noughties,
A Great Decade but has anyone else noticed there has never been a CHRISTMAS song as Christmas Number 1? Or a better question, has anyone noticed the fact there's literally no Christmas songs released anymore? Let's see, The Noughties kicked off with Bob The Builder as a Christmas Number 1 in the year 2000. Reality TV played a big part in Christmas Number 1s with Girls Aloud being Christmas Number 1 2002 thanks to Popstars. And from 2005 right up to 2008 we had X Factor winners as the Number Ones. But it seems when you look back at all the christmas songs on TV in December, they are rubbish quality but god a great song. Right? They are usually from the 80s and the 90s. So I don't get it, why on earth have artists stopped recording Christmas Songs like the olden days? I love Christmas due to the music and I would love to have some fresh tunes on there from current artists and NOT Covers. So yes what's your opinion on this? |
Infact the last 'Christmassy' song we ever had in the C#1 spot was East 17's Stay Another Day in 1994.
Although to be fair I think Alexandra's Hallelujah in 2008 sounding quite Christmassy, but neither of these songs are actually to do with Christmas. Neither sing about Christmas. |
mariah carey is on it.......shes releasing a xmas song next week....then an album......... :(
|
Oh interesting, I hope it's good.
I loved her last Christmas song hope this is just as good. LOL at 'Then An Album :(' |

Spoiler: But yea, I think the thing is, noone released Xmas songs anymore :/ |
East 17 wasn't Christmassy, the only thing Christmassy about it was that they had snow in the video
Besides, noone can top this so noone bothers its a shame she got ranover by a speedboat The last 'big' one I can think of is The Darkness one in 2003 |
The music industry is **** these days, that is why.

For some reason I cant see any song released today being as timeless as the ones from the 80's & 90's. There has been a few attempts, but they've mainly been gimmicky ones or they've failed miserably.

The last Christmas song I remember being released is Geraldine McQueen's [Peter Kay's character] "Once Upon A Christmas Song"...
:joker: |
Well every year we get Mariah Carey & The Pogues re-entering the charts. I don't think new music songs ever do well but the classics still make an impact on the charts.

they were always gimmicky anyway.
I wonder if Fairytale in New York was originally an Xmas song. But either way it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written. |

I said this last year and was attacked by 'Metal Heads' on here for saying so. It's Christmas for goodness sake [Well I'm referring to 2009] if they wanted to make a difference they could of got a good Christmas song into the charts not that rock bollocks, completely ruined the whole Xmas Number 1 Countdowns that'll be on for years to come. I do love how that Fairytale of New York was like Number 1 for a short while in early December last year :D |
I hope The X Factor winner gets #1 this year instead of some stupid people campaigning for a **** song, just to stop them :bored:

Maybe it's just me being optimistic, but I have a feeling this year's X-Factor single won't get the Christmas no. 1.
|
Shakin Stevens with "Merry Christmas Everyone" FOR CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE!!!!!!
25 YEARS AFTER IT FIRST DEBUED AT NUMBER 1!! Let the frigging magic happen again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do it baby do it!!!!!! SHAKIN STEVENS COMEBACK!!!!!! |
Trouble is, a Christmas song can be a stigmata to a musicians career nowadays, if it is successful, that is all you will be remembered for.

Or maybe another band like The Darkness should come up with a christmasy song? I don't think "Don't let the bells end" actually made it to number 1? I do like The X Factor.. but I just miss a good old traditional Christmas song reaching number 1 :( Well suppose I don't mind if the silent song goes to number 1. Will be funny and different. Yet another "controversial" blow for the X Factor. Robbie Williams has had a string of number 2 singles and you don't hear him complaining. X Factor having a number 2 christmas single is still good. |
