Channel 4 gets a new look

It's similar to the old one, just a little more modern

Look's sh*t.

Old idents FTW!

They can change their look all they like, it doesn't change the fact they made the biggest mistake axing Big Brother and their channel is a mess now.

I do love how their 'biggest' show is Hollyoaks and that struggles to get 1 Million a night.

I think it's awful. Looks very cheap and nasty, especially that menu - it's like something you'd expect from a digital channel.

That said, they were long overdue some new idents, though it's a shame one of the three was just last year's scrapyard ident in 2D.

Whats with the big grey line across everything!?

And the new scrapyard thing is so 2D, I loved the old ones with the haystcacks, the pigeons, the city one. Now that! :( complaining now, cant say i'd notice in a few weeks time

They're keeping the old ones, just adding three new ones - well, two if you discount Scrapyard.

One of new ones is set in Blackpool apparently

Scarlett. 22-10-2010 04:15 PM

Someone from my old college apparently helped film the Blackpool ident lol

Channel 4 are fine, you can't expect them to have hit after hit.

Big Brother is long past its sell by date, Channel 4 made a bigger mistake in axing Brookside imo but managed to get past it

Blackpool ident:

Airport ident:

The major problem with the newer idents is that - in Airport especially - it's really hard to distinguish the 4 logo.

If this is the best they can come up with for a refresh then it's perhaps time for a total rebrand

They're not really - several of their shows, including Seven Days, Wedding House and True Blood are only getting six-figure ratings at the moment. Even their much-publicised Prince Harry kidnap doc failed to hit the 1million mark.

I know we're heading towards the completion of the digital switchover, but even Big Brother was getting an average of 2.5m a night

Scarlett. 22-10-2010 10:02 PM

I like the new idents, and I agree with Tom, sure C4 doesn't get the big hitters like ITV1 and BBC1 but it's not supposed to, it's not meant to be a "mainstream entertainment" channel, Channel 4 was given the go ahead to be different, to explore new shows and not to depend on big hitters, Channel 4, like BBC2 is meant to show more "fringe" shows

Patrick 22-10-2010 10:11 PM

The new idents, you wouldn't even know they were from C4.

The Taxi in NewYork will always be the best.

Scarlett. 22-10-2010 10:17 PM

Would you know these are from C4?

All channels need to change their image at some point

For every failure they've also got a hit that is getting them well over 2m viewers. a few examples being CDWM, Grand Designs, This is England, Million Pound Drop

Of course, but you can't deny that it's a bad state of affairs for them to have that many prime-time shows fail to hit 1million viewers. Seven Days is a particularly bad case - it was heralded as a new era in reality television and it has flopped hard

The ident Patrick was referring to:

Jords 24-10-2010 10:07 PM

I love them idents.

Patrick 24-10-2010 10:40 PM

Look what I found

SO EPIC
