Million Dollar Money Drop (This week on FOX)

According to Hollywood Junket, FOX is taping/has taped the first series of the US version of The Million Pound Drop, which they've called 'Million Dollar Money Drop'.

It appears to be almost identical in terms of gameplay, except there are seven questions, and the players have 50 bundles of $20,000 (instead of the UK's 40 bundles of £25,000).

The host is Kevin Pollak, who's had mixed to poor reviews as a gameshow host. No word on when it's airing yet though...

Tom 03-11-2010 03:52 PM

Is it Endemol USA producing it? If so, Million Dollar Money Drop doesn't have the same ring to it as Million Dollar Drop

Callum 03-11-2010 04:01 PM

Do they always have to copy our shows or are they just out of fresh ideas?

Yep - and I agree, should have either been 'The Million Dollar Drop' or 'The Money Drop'. The logo could do with some red in it too

Endemol is a global business and its formats are frequently sold to other countries - just look at Big Brother.

US Endemol formats that have came to the UK recently include Total Wipeout (which is much worse than the US version) and 101 Ways To Leave A Gameshow (which was so **** it was axed).

Million Pound Drop is about the only recent global Endemol format I can think of that originated in the UK.

Be greatful that they didnt plonk USA at the end of the title.

Patrick 03-11-2010 04:15 PM

You are taking the piss right?

No sorry, this can't be true I mean.

AAAGH!

Right.
Now do you all understand my hated for the media in America?

I'm glad Callum took the words right out of my mouth.

They try their own shows, they FAIL Epicly.

So then they copy ours and try to make it out as if they made it first and that it's bigger and better than us.

God, It's literally a joke how most shows in America are took from us and then they got the sheer cheak to go and broadcast it here, thinking we actually care about their sh*tty rip off when we have our own perfectly good version right here!

So what do you have to say about the other eight countries who have also bought it - Greece (Money Drop), Russia (Шоу Десять миллионов/Shou desyti millionov), Germany (Rette die Million), Ukraine (Шоу на два мiльйони), Israel (אל תפיל את המיליון/Al Tapil Et HaMilyon), Spain, Hungary and Albania?

Lmao at the other countries names.

I say whatever to them because I know for a fact they probably haven't took as much of our ideas as America has done.

If however, Greece, Germany, Israel or whatever, has tooken just as much as our ideas as USA then the same applies to them, they bug the sh*t out of me.

You know what, I give up. You're so incredibly ignorant about these things, it's unreal.

Fox has now confirmed they've ordered twelve episodes of Million Dollar Money Drop. The first airs December 20th at 8pm, with another three stripped across consecutive nights until the 23rd. More dates will be announced later.

Here's a sneak peek of the set, with host Kevin Pollak:

I take it it won't be live so if they're filming shows at the moment?

I've not seen anything about them being live - I assume that's something they might introduce in the future if it proves to be a success

I think the fact that it's live on the British one adds to the show and the tension etc, and the fact that you can play along online

I agree. I don't think it'll do well in the US anyway though - it doesn't seem like the kind of thing Americans go for.

Anyway, official site is now up with a trailer for the show - check it out at http://www.fox.com/milliondollarmoneydrop/

fuzzylovin 20-11-2010 03:55 PM

Did they also take big brother from us, or did we take it from them?

You make it sound as though the UK version was a success :conf:

Braden 20-11-2010 04:08 PM

Wow!

That title is a mouth full.

It is. It's one of Channel 4's highest rating and most popular shows now, and off the back of that it's becoming Endemol's latest global hit format.

Matt 08-12-2010 06:43 PM

FOX has released four preview clips, and it looks fantastic. On first impressions, I think the set is loads better than ours...

...but of course, they don't have the amazing Davina :D

Also, it's just been announced that the US version will have a Millionaire-style lifeline called 'Quick Change'. If a couple is unsure on a question after the initial 60 seconds is up, they can use it to get 30 seconds extra time to move their money. It can only be used once in the first six questions.

Sounds a bit pointless, but then it was introduced to help the show appeal to US audiences who apparently don't like seeing player after player losing...

Matt 21-12-2010 12:10 AM

Watching this now

It's a lot more dragged out than the UK version and the incidental music is a bit distracting, but the set is a-maz-ing

They have models to move the money back instead of the contestants
