Is Mary From Tesco Past Her Sell By Date??

Now I know there are a lot worse on XFactor this year, but after seeing her perforamance last week, and then this week - I'm not sure I'm enjoying hearing Mary almost bursting her lungs every week with 'big' numbers - and much as I hate to lump her in with the Chavvy Cher - whilst Mary is a loveable type, as far as her vocal talents go - for me, she is good only at belting out big numbers. She's doesn't have much versatility. When she tries, bless her, it's clear she's outwith her comfort zone - and doesn't perform well.

Anyone else beginning to wane a little as far as Mary is concerned?

Jessica. 14-11-2010 09:26 AM

No way!

Stacey. 14-11-2010 09:27 AM

She was past it a long time ago.

Good morning little one.

Past it a long time ago? How, pray tell, do you have that view? Or perhaps you don't have an answer, and you disagreed for nothing more than the sheer hell of it? ;)

Fan I see! Actually I like her from what we are seeing - I thought it said lot that they have not allowed her till to be used and have it full of banners and balloons. That's a testiment to the type of lady she is: lovely.

I'm sure she deserves a wee break - she is fab at belting out the powerful gutsy songs, but it falls apart a bit on other types. Still think she's lovely mind you.

She is starting to get annoying, sooner she is gone the better.

I like her but you know what you are going to get most weeks - not that she's a bad singer, not at all (unlike Cher and Katie who are bloody awful), just that I personally prefer listeing to someone who has more variety - I mean, look at Shirley Bassey - big voice, big singer, and that's great if you like that gendre - I do, but only in small doses.

Kate! 14-11-2010 10:20 AM

she is big headed, said last night "next week I am going to......" Cocky. Get her out!

Zippy 14-11-2010 10:41 AM

She should be put in the reduced price for quick sale section at Tesco.

Last night was just naff pub cabaret. Which is all she is at the end of the day. Four crap weeks on the trot now. Oh dear.

Meanwhile Cher has been getting better and better.

BB_Eye 14-11-2010 11:20 AM

She really wasn't good last night.

Jordan. 14-11-2010 11:22 AM

Shes gone downhill from week 1, its time for her to pack her tesco bags and piss off.

Sadly, Mids, I fear you're right. Mary's not, musically, my cup of tea, but she's a damn fine singer, a lovely lady and she, if we're being honest, is the breath of fresh air in this year's competition. She's refreshingly untrendy and all about the voice. The problem, of course, is that those who like Mary aren't the main consumers of chart music. The vast majority of those consumers don't even think that 'style over substance' is an insult. Many of them are all about the superficial. Which explains why Cher is deified when she's not complete crap - 'cos she 'changes it up', 'is the whole package', 'is a diva in the making' and other such, non-talent related, drivel.

Funny you mention that.... I 'caught' that last night and did think she'd dropped a bit of a clanger.

Now, me being a big cynic.... I reckon she's been tipped off that she's staying then. Tonight will tell.

Hi Pats, how you doing Toots? All continuing well on the 'wee barras' front I hope. x

Yep,that's the thing: Xfactor has been useful for showcasing Mary - that I have no doubt about - big voice but maybe not an 'all rounder' as far as versatility goes.

Mind you, I say that , then think of a certain, Open legged, bouncy, faux rapper style, gurning little git of a stroppy teenager, otherwise known as Cher. In that case, I'd rather have Mary !!! :)

Patrick 14-11-2010 11:29 AM

Yes, She's beginning to get boring.

She has a chance of winning.

The Audience are always like MARY MARY MARY and I'm like st.fu!

And she's topped the public voting for weeks where as Cher, One Erection, Matt and Rebecca the other favourites haven't.

But Louis needs to get her doing something more up to date or she's ******ed.

No, she's fcked if she tries to do up to date stuff. Truth is, she's only any good at the old cruise ship standards. Zzzzz,

I actually agree...... there is demand for her type of singing, that's a given, but not necessarily on XFactor.

Tom4784 14-11-2010 12:25 PM

I agree, I can't fault most performances as she is good but she's boring.

That's probably what I was attempting to say but never quite got there. She IS good..... but it is becoming repetitive and boring.

I said this and got accused of being ageist and (bizarrely) racist by El Proximo... Glad to see I'm not alone though. I like her, I like her singing voice, I just think she's made herself into the definition of a one trick pony.

Danielle1232 14-11-2010 04:36 PM

She's out of date.

Ha.... I saw that 'racist' allegation (something along the lines of all Eastern people being chinese or something, iirc?)..... PMSL !! :joker:

Nothing to do with ageist, all to do with Mary having a limited audience, given the type of voice she has - excellent with big raucous numbers, but not so good when it comes to other music gendres I'm afraid.

On the plus side (and no, that's not fat-ist before anyone starts), she does seem very down to earth and is definately a likeable sort.

Yeah I'm not really sure how he came to that conclusion, I really don't appreciate being accused of being an -ist person when I'm not! And yeah absolutely; there have been so many fantastic singers on the X Factor that you do need to bring something else to the table as well - if a good voice is 100%; then being an entertainer is another 50% - to stand out, you need that something extra. Mary just doesn't seem to have anything else to offer... I really like her, I wish she made more of an effort to liven things up.

Well you are clearly and obviously not 'Danni-iest' ! :joker:

Stunning looking woman that she is! (*cusses under breath*)

Livia 14-11-2010 07:37 PM

Whoever's styling Mary needs to be sacked. Everything from the clothes they pick for her to the way they shove her hair up makes her look dreadful and much older than she actually is. I know she's big... but she's actually younger than Madonna. Stop dressing her up like a grandmother.
