What do you love about Christmas?

I'm not remotely religious so I'm afraid much of Christmas does come down to the commercial side of it all for me. It's now snowing here and I'm starting to get the festive spirit in me !:elephant:

I've been buying bits n bobs for a few months, bought a load of Christmas bags, and spent the last wee while, mooching through all the pressies I've bought: deciding who should get what, and putting into gift bags.

Now I've got that sorted out, I'm can individually wrap all the goodies inside the individual bags.......

Now...that's what I love about Christmas. I love having spent time thinking about who would like what, then seeing all the pressies starting to pile up - and wishing it was time to hand out the gifts.

That's the bit I really enjoy most, as well as when the time comes: getting all the niceties of twinkling lights, garlands etc all put up.

Have already got a really nice tree for the work and plan on going in one Sunday on the QT with all the pressies for my staff, get the tree up, place the pressies underneath.......as a total surprise for them coming in - they've been told they can't put the tree up until the traditional 12 days before, but that's to allow me to do the surprise!.

I love it!

So...what do you love about Christmas and why!

Cold weather and christmas markets

Kerry 26-11-2010 10:34 PM

The main day (early start, daughters face, dinner, wine, TV and snoozing). Outside that the lights twinkling at night on the tree, good atmospheres, snow (when it does) and going out for walks and seeing everyones houses lit up

Presents  The christmas snacks aswell.. like the only things you have at christmas time.

Don't really care about seeing family and things, I could live without them.

Vicky. 26-11-2010 10:44 PM

Family and the chance to eat and drink twice as much as usual :laugh2:

I actually hate the family stuff. It's so hypocritical. If you care about people you should see them all year round no matter what

I love my kids excitement re Santa, the nights out, social gatherings with friends and xmas nibbles and mulled wine, sitting at night with all the lights out except the xmas tree, wrapping pressies on xmas eve with my OH and a glass of baileys and xmas music on, xmas dinner with my family and my sisters boxing day gathering with the whole family... I don't know how my sis does it to be honest. She's cooking a sit down meal for 19 people this boxing day :amazed:

The atmosphere, all the decorations and eating all the food. People wishing you a Merry Christmas, buying presents for people, spending time with people I love. Heat Christmas special,The Late Late Toy Show,Christmas movies. Loads,I love Christmas.

Jordan. 26-11-2010 11:03 PM

The build up, the presents and the food.

keithafc 27-11-2010 12:28 AM

The build up is amazing, the christmas music when going into shops, the presents but by FAR the best is getting up early and putting on the christmas turkey and making a brilliant meal for the family.

We don't get visits by uncles, grandas etc. Just the family.

Nothing

Shaun 27-11-2010 12:35 AM

- the decorations. My mum and I go waaay overboard and basically turn our living room into Santa's Grotto.
- presents. let's be honest.
- the christmas dinner...OMG and leftover turkey sandwiches  best. thing. ever. I say this about a lot of things, but seriously, pickled onions, cranberry sauce + cold turkey = the next 3/4 days being fantastic.
- how everyone comes back from Uni/whatever. Mass meetups to watch movies, have a drink, etc.
- only time of the year my mum will buy booze.
- log/coal fires <3
- lots of movies on television.
- family socialisation that I really don't do for the other 364 days per year.
- advent calendars <3

Alcohol, family, food, friends.

Pretty much what makes up anything else that's good.

I love being able to say, "Bah Hambug" !!!

Flopping out on the sofa after Xmas dinner, watching the rubbish on telly and dozing off, s'great!

Like Shaun, I also like all the left over food, turkey sandwiches with a roasting hot cuppa - hard to beat. And as others have said, the actual build up, Christmas songs everywhere.

Plus, pig in blankets someow seem to taste different, taste better, at this time of year.

Sigh...... I just love it. :spin:
