Depeche Mode are obviously massively underrated in their homeland. That's a fact of life rather than any bias on my part. They had a non stop battle with the British press for the first twenty years of their career who found it difficult to place them into a niche alongside other more trite synth acts of the 80's and the dreaded emergence of hair metal.

Now they have gained a lot more respect but continually get pigeonholed as an '80's band' by British music journalists despite still having a consistent, well lauded output. Things were different in central Europe and America who embraced the band on a stadium level by the late 80's.

Another one that comes to mind is The Wonderstuff, a great bout of goofy Uni rock from the black country. They pretty much killed their own legacy stone dead by doing 'Dizzy' with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer but they had some great tunes.

Apart from that Goldfrapp I find to be continually underrated. Most of Gary Numan's work is underrated. Hurts, Marina & The Diamonds and Bat For Lashes would be more modern examples.

They get their due I reckon. I never knew Billy 'why so serious?' Corgan was going out with Jessica Origliasso. The lucky, sad bastard.

The Calling. Most will disagree...but some of their songs are my favourite ever. And they are only really known for 'Wherever you will go' which I think is actually one of their worst :/

Stigmatized has been my favourite song for about 4 years or so now, such a beautiful song :')

King Gizzard 01-12-2010 01:36 AM

Probably not underrated but not as well known as they should be

It's just crazy how someone who can look like this has that kind of voice, its more shocking than the BeeGees

Oooh, I heard about her in Q - she's tipped for big things in 2011.

King Gizzard 01-12-2010 02:12 AM

There was this girl that looked like a guy with crazy hair last year on Jools Holland, she had an amazing voice, but I havnt heard anything of her since

If only I remembered her name

King Gizzard 01-12-2010 02:18 AM

This was her/the song but I can't find the Jools version :(

I'd go as far to say its the best female voice I've ever heard

I'm downloading her on the Jools show now, I could upload it to youtube if you like.

Edit: I'm uploading it, should take 10mins.

My absolute favourite artist, Siobhan Donaghy.

Words cannot describe how unfair I find it that she's fought tooth and nail to release two albums that have been critically acclaimed but sold a pittance; I love her music and really, really hope she releases a 3rd album some day.. :(
