Olly's first week album sales are higher than Joe's total album sales so far

Olly Murs, last year’s X Factor runner-up, also secures a record breaker with his debut album, the self-titled Olly Murs, a new entry at number two recording the biggest week one album sales (of over 108,000) for a debut artist this year so far.

Joe's album managed less than 40k first week, and hasn't really been seen since (dropping from #3 to #20 in its second week, than vanishing after that).

I always knew (and said many of times on here last year) that Olly would be more successful, but I didn't think he'd almost tripple Joe's first week sales, and beat Joe's total sales in one week.

Thinking Of Me stuck at #4 in the singles chart aswell.

Well done Olly :)

Who was mentored by Cheryl? No chance.

Marc 05-12-2010 10:48 PM

LOL... Joe fail.

Tom 05-12-2010 10:56 PM

Olly was always going to have this level of success whether he won or not so its best he didn't win or else he'd been as a bit of a flop. The real winner of this years competition will also be the act that finishes second, noone can rival Leona or Alex yet.

Locke. 06-12-2010 11:05 PM

74,141 albums Joe has sold so far, in 6 weeks. 108,000 for Olly in one week, which means Olly will probably have doubled Joe's sales this sunday.

Joe's new single is also only #161 on iTunes aswell :\

Poor Joe. :( But well done Olly! :D

I think I might buy his album actually, I really like the sound of it, may have been a great thing that he didn't win actually

I'm not surprised, Olly was a far better singer and all round entertainer than Joe. I loved Olly's voice. Well done to him.

The only people who have done well out of the x factor are Leona, JLS, Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers and now Olly Murs.

I suppose if you dont count the music industry then Stacey has done well.

They said on a music channel a few weeks ago that Journey South are still one of the biggest selling acts in some foreign country, can't remember what country they said though

Locke. 07-12-2010 05:23 PM

South Africa! That was it

Captain.Remy 07-12-2010 05:26 PM

Amazing. The true winner. It proves he didn't need the title to be successful. Simon must regret so badly not choosing him as the winner, Joe is a waste of space and money.

Well done Olly. Seriously, him and Rhydian are pretty much what the X Factor did best.

edit: and it proves one more time one of the most important "Reality-TV" fact: the runner-up is 95% better than the winner, whether it's a singing contest, living in a house, in a jungle or anything else.
