Corrie set expansion

Here's an official map, areas surrounding the set are earmarked for expansion

Which would include Crimea Street and Inkerman Street!

flamingGalah! 18-12-2010 11:49 PM

I read that they are putting in planning permission for any future extensions to the set they may want to make, but initially will only be making a (slightly larger) exact copy of the current exterior set. They are also going down the route of what EastEnders did, ie building a set of cladding on a metal frame, rather than building proper houses out of brick etc... I just hope it looks ok, as it's bound to look at least a bit different... :conf2:

Scarlett. 19-12-2010 11:43 AM

they're building facades of the Bonded Warehouse and Science and Industry museum, just so it'll look the same xD the expansions will be discussed in a year

flamingGalah! 19-12-2010 10:09 PM

I reckon they will do something different instead of just making facades of the Museum as they are never properly seen in shot anyway. It gives them the opportunity to have more realistic buildings that would really back onto a terraced street. They could make the Museum bit Nuttalls Brewery, which I think it is supposed to be anyway...

Scarlett. 19-12-2010 10:21 PM

Yeah it is, they will be able to customise the buildings now

Braden 19-12-2010 10:23 PM

Wow! This looks fabulous.

Scarlett. 06-03-2011 10:23 PM

After years of rumours and uncertainty, building work has started on Coronation Street's new home at MediaCityUK.

One of the soap's longest serving stars, William Roache, was appropriately on-hand to break the ground on what will eventually become the studio base for the soap.

"It’s over fifty years since I first walked on to a Coronation Street set, and now I’m here with Michelle [Keegan], starting the build of our new home – the one that will take us well in to this century, and it feels fantastic.”

The 7.7 acre site is across the water from the main BBC studios, alongside the Imperial War Museum North and will be a bespoke stand-alone production and studio centre for Coronation Street.

“Our move to MediaCityUK is an historic one that will continue our commitment to the North, ensuring our longevity as the major programme maker in the region and make us a crucial part of Europe’s biggest media population. It is a very exciting time,” added Kevin Lygo, managing director, ITV Studios.

Work is expected to be complete by spring 2013.

If it'll be built to real life standards does that mean the street will look really different?! Will there be a storyline covering this or are they just gonna pretend nothing changed?

They're probably gonna pretend nothing happened

At the last switch over, the street went from this
