2010: The Fastest Year Ever?

I was going to ask this on Yahoo Answers but It'd be interesting to hear what you lot think.

Why on earth has this year went SO FAST?

It is not just me, Apparently as you get older the days and years go faster as you're wiser and you have more work and such to do but when you were little the world just seemed like a place to play in but that has jack all to do with this year flying by.

Because it isn't just a few people that think it went fast, literally everyone I know online and offline and on the TV have all said this year has flown in.

If you look back on the summer and stuff, it doesn't seem that long ago and if you think back to late 2009 which also doesn't seem like it's been over 365 days since we were in 2009.

I mean is it something to do with Science or Space that has made time go faster?

And do you all think '11 will go even faster than '10?

It's gone incredibly quick - and it isn't just because I'm older, my little sister has noticed how quickly it's gone too. Maybe it is science and space

Oh my gosh!

I said on Facebook aswell, there's no way the firework displays and all that have been over 40 minutes?

Like we actually have been in 2011 now, 40 Minutes!!

It seems like about 10 minutes!

It's literally like we've gotten off a really fast roller-coaster and jumped onto an even faster one!

:o

I know what you mean, it seems like about 10 minutes ago.

This year's just gonna fly by

''As we get older, the years become a rapidly shrinking fraction of our total lifetime.
For a five year span, the age compared to fraction is like this:

5yrs old =1/1,
10yrs old =1/2,
15yrs old =1/3,
20yrs old =1/4,
25yrs old =1/5,
30yrs old =1/6,
35yrs old =1/7,
40yrs old =1/8,
45yrs old =1/9,
50yrs old =1/10, and so on.

When we are very young, our minds become accustomed to future events seeming to take forever to come to pass. The way we perceive time becomes set on long. This is called subjective time. Then, as we age, subjective time slowly starts to shorten, but we don't notice it at first. However, by the time we are 40, the wait for a future event is such a small fraction of the total time we have lived that the shortened subjective time becomes noticeable. By the time we are 50, five years is only 1/10 of our total lifetime, 5 percent. And smaller bits of time are a commensurately smaller fraction of our lifetime.''

i thought last year went really fast, and it wasn't even a good year overall. Seems like a couple of months ago i was in Egypt but that was back in july!

Captain.Remy 01-01-2011 10:03 AM

It went really fast but I enjoyed every second of it as it was my favourite year ever, no contest. So many things happened yet I think nothing happened because it went so fast. I definitely want to live that again.

I don't think it went that fast, it feels like ages since the World cup and Big brother were on

It did seem to go really fast, like if I think back to March,it feels like only a couple of months ago.

Niall 01-01-2011 01:38 PM

2010 did go ridiculously fast. I bet 2011 is gonna be worse :(

Tom4784 01-01-2011 02:47 PM

It seemed fast but when you think about it, it's been a long year.
