Coronation Street's first Chinese resident will reportedly be introduced next month.

A 19-year-old college graduate, Xin, will be presented as a friend of Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) and be seen moving in with the Rovers barmaid and her boyfriend Graeme (Craig Gazey), The Sun reports.

Xin, who works in Chinese restaurant The Royal Panda, will identify various Corrie residents by their takeaway orders, including Roy Cropper - who she tells: "I know you... you're sweet and sour chicken, fried rice and prawn crackers."

However, the paper claims that she will also bring some dark secrets onto the street.

A show source added: "Manchester has a big Chinatown and it's a crime that Corrie bosses have ignored it for so long. They hope Xin becomes a big character and that a whole family can be introduced."

Young asians on Corrie? I am so in.

I've never seen an East Asian on any soap before.

They had Charlotte recently, they are quite under-represented really though.

It'd be interesting if there was a story with Triads, I'm kinda thinking that is what it means by 'dark characters'

I can't see it being anything like that, It would be a bit of a cliche I think. I'm guessing it's just soem dark family history of sort.

Apparently her first scenes have been filmed in Chinatown in Manchester

I think shes gonna be a good addition!
