Swine Flu Vaccine

I presume most of you have seen the tragic case currently in the news about the healthy 3 year old who died of swine flu and the very brave parents' appeal to people to make sure they immunise their children?

Well, has anybody actually tried to GET the vaccine. I spent almost all morning on the phone trying to get it for my daughter.. My nhs doc surgery don't do it so they told me to get in touch with Boots or Asda pharmacy as they were doing it. I phoned every pharmacy in my vicinity, only to conclude that they have all been instructed not to order any more in..

I tried Bupa and various other private practices before finally tracking some down in Edinburgh where she is having it done on Monday (for a rather steep I though £60!)

Last year the Scottish gov said they had stockpiled enough of the vaccine to immunise everybody! Where has it all gone?

My son was offered it last year as he was under 5 but surely they should be doiing all children as a precaution, particularly as another oubreak is imminent?! (27 people have died from it already this year in Scotland!)

Anyway! Rant over! :D

The jab should be available for everyone for free.

Well, both my kids were offered it through school last year. I was unsure about the vaccine so I asked a friend of my mothers who's husband is a doctor and she said that they have not and will not be getting their kids vaccinated. I decided against having my kids vaccinated for it in the end.

I think I've already had Swine Flu, not really sure though. The risk has been exaggerated though, I think I read that more people die from normal flu than they do swine flu

No-one can get it where I am either.
I had it, but with the normal flu jab I have every year.

Yeah, I know a few people who don't vaccinate their children at all, which is fair enough; it's their decision. I did a lot of research during the mmr panic and both my kids had it in the end...
I spoke to my gp re the swine flu vaccine and she said she couldn't advise me as it was my decision but her little one had had it, as had she (she was pregnant)

It's not just the risk of death that bothers me; My friend has it just now which has developed into pneumonia AND pleurasy and she says she wouldn't wish how she feels on her worst enemy.. Says she'll never complain over a cold or normal flu again.
I think the vaccine my daughter is having immunises against the normal flu too, so it's just peace of mind for me.

But if you do get it, its really nasty. Everyone should have the option of a normal flu jab too.

I'm not against vaccines in general, my kids have all the other ones (mmr etc) The problem with this one was that it was so new and hadn't been tested properly and had made some people ill. They were in such a rush to get it out there last year, I was just very unsure about it

Yeah, I know what you mean.I was a bit unsure because of it's newness, but then we got a letter home from school saying there were 2 cases of swine flu in the school, and I just thought oh bugger it.. What if the worst happened, would I be able to forgive myself.. so he got marched to the doctors straight away. I know it's quite a tricky decision to make but I have to say he was neither up nor down with it.. :)

well, thankfully there wasn't actually any cases of it in my kids schools, I may have changed my mind about if there was.

That mother was angry
that her child did not get the injection.
But the rules will not change over her very sad loss.

She was on Daybreak
and after each time talking to her Live they went
to there Doctor Hilary who said the rules will not change
if only he could debate with her.

really? cos there was a doctor on the local radio here this morning that said only people suffering from something else (obesity, diabetes etc) are in danger. We have had as many cases here as ye though and I don't think anyone has died from it this time round either

The Jab does ****** all.

All it gives is more harm than good, It doesn't keep you immune in the slightest.
