:(!!

I'm really upset right now, I was walking back from my mate's flat after our night out and it's absolutely freezing outside, my jaw was chattering as I walked home and I walked past this poor dog that had been chained up to a lampost and there wasn't a soul in sight, I really did want to stop and try and help it somehow but it's honestly so cold and I'm a bit scared of dogs, but I felt that bad that I called 118 247 and got the number for the SSPCA but the office was closed and their automated message told me to call my local police station, I've got no idea what my local police station's number is and by that point I was back at my flat and now I've no idea if the dog's still there. I cannot believe someone would do that to a pet, I could never do that to my cat, the dog was whimpering so loudly! I want to go give money to charity or something now.. aahhhh!!

Kerry 21-01-2011 03:40 AM

Try Googling a local number ?? :(

Z 21-01-2011 03:43 AM

Yeah.. I dunno whether to call now though, the dog might have been helped by now? This was like half an hour ago now agggghh why couldn't the SSPCA office have been open, I feel bad calling a police station over this but I feel even worse just doing nothing.. I'm not going to be able to sleep now, agh! :(

Was it just a random lamp post? Not by a house or anything?

The local police are there for abandoned dogs as much as people.

Pyramid* 21-01-2011 04:12 AM

I'd be calling the local cop shop - it could be something very innocent - but it could be that the dog has been abandoned.

Poor wee dog. :(

Angus 21-01-2011 05:31 AM

I would have called 999 from my mobile, - a freezing dog, apparently abandoned - is what I would consider an emergency. The operator would have put you through to the local cop shop.

What happened in the end Greg?

Jordan. 21-01-2011 11:11 AM

Something like this happened to me before, Me and a friend found a dog tied up to a tree in the middle of some woods freezing. So we tried to let it lose and take it home with us so we could get help for it. It was aggresive at first when we went near it probably because it was scared so we just sat with it for a bit and it got okay with us. Anyway I managed to get it untied from the tree then my friend moved too sudden and crapped the dog up so it just shot off, probably back to its owner. Still its better than it tied up there where it'd probably would have died. :/

I don't get how people can treat their dogs so horrible. :bored:

yeah, I can't understand why if they don't want to or can't look after the dog anymore they don't just bring it in to an animal shelter:conf:

Because animal shelters wont take them :bored:

Well RSPCA and stuff like that wont.

Out dog went to bite one of the kids, so obviously we had to get rid, we spent about 6 hours ringing up the shelters round here...all were 'full'. RSPCA wouldnt take him unles he was abused (basically telling us the only way we could get help was to hit the dog :bored:). Dogs trust said the same.

Whilst I dont agree with it at all, I do understand why some people get so frustrated that they abandon the dogs. None of these so called charities will help with rehoming when you actually need it, as much as they bleat on about it.

Luckily we managed to find a home for our dog ourselves in the end.

Don't be so mean, he tried helping, most people would just keep on walking and not try to find a number or anything...

_Seth 22-01-2011 12:00 PM

It's not mean in the slightest (or at least compared to what he didn't do for the dog that was whimpering loudly). He should have taken the dog to the nearest police station, even if he didn't know where it was. Since there was no-one else around, the dog has almost definitely frozen to death.

He said he's not too fond of dogs, if you had a fear of something you'd do the best you could (which is what he did in this case), there's nothing more he could have done, the dog could have attacked him had he tried to free it.

Z 22-01-2011 12:06 PM

The dog was chained up with a padlock to a lampost, it was 4.15ish in the morning and I'd been on a night out, as Iceman said, most people wouldn't have even given it a second thought - there were a group of drunken guys who were standing just along the road from where the dog was and none of them were even looking at it. I couldn't take the dog to the nearest police station because I don't know where the nearest police station is (I should mention that I'm a student and I'm living in a different city to my hometown) and, as I said, the dog was chained up. I feel awful but I did try to do something, even if it didn't help. I wasn't going to approach a strange dog that's been chained up, for all I know the reason it was chained up was because it's really vicious. Who knows? Blah I hate people, I don't understand animal cruelty :(

_Seth 22-01-2011 12:08 PM

I see your point, but since it was chained up you could have gone up to it and seen whether it became vicious.

I'm really not that keen on dogs, I used to be so afraid of them I wouldn't go round to people's houses if they had a dog, I'm fine with them now in general but certain dogs set me on edge, I don't know names of breeds but the type of dog in question was one of them. :/ there are so many things I wish I could have done for it, both things I could have realistically done and things I couldn't have, I feel terrible for it, I mean I know I would have felt worse for not trying to do anything at all, but somehow it seems worse that I did try to help and it didn't do anything to help the dog at all...

_Seth 22-01-2011 12:16 PM

Oh well. I don't doubt that it died a slow, agonising death or it's in a significantly worse condition than it would be if brought to warmth the night before...

You really are trying to make him feel worse than he should. He did more than most would.

Most are idiots, then.

Tom4784 22-01-2011 12:28 PM

You're a charmer, Phlip...

_Seth 22-01-2011 12:31 PM

There is so much he could have done, but failed to. He's as much to blame as the owner and everyone else who did ****all. As I say, the death is on his and everyone else who failed to help's fault.

Oh cop on and stop now you're borderline baiting.

_Seth 22-01-2011 12:34 PM

All I'm doing is responding to everyone else's posts with a different opinion.

I don't even know what baiting means...

LemonJam 22-01-2011 01:15 PM

Shut the **** up Phlip, yes maybe Greg made a mistake, maybe not, either way there's no reason to make him feel like a tit about it.
