3D Films

Do you like them or hate them?

I really dislike them, i can't stand having to wear they 3D glasses for 2 hours or so and normally i think there is little difference compared to watching a normal film.

I think it's another way for Cinemas to rob money off people, especially when it's only out in 3D, so if you want to see the film you have to pay over £10 or whatever it is.

Although some may prefer it it's just not my thing.

Ramsay 19-02-2011 01:22 AM

they are ****
i normally wear glasses anyway so when i go to the cinema im 6 eyes:bawling:
all the kids laugh at me :(

InOne 19-02-2011 01:24 AM

Hate 3D. Takes the fun out of going to the cinema, can't relax with silly glasses on you.

Beastie 19-02-2011 01:30 AM

A waste of money!! Not much difference between a 2d and a 3d film at the pictures. It's a gimmick. I rather watch a 2d film. The pictures is too expensive as it is anyway!

It's not exactly a new craze. In fact, it failed spectacularly in the 50s. But with the continual bombarment of blockbuster epics such as Avatar, animated franchises such as Toy Story and a range of opportunistic gimmicks like Final Destination - 3D is most definitely back.

But what's wrong with it? Is it damaging cinema directly? No, not really. However - my beef with the idea is down to a variety of reasons.

Primarily - necessity. The whole point of it was that it was a novelty - something you can go "ooh" at, and don't particularly make a habit out of. Cinema and television have enjoyed almost (over) a century of magical moments - would Metropolis have been better with a few of those mechanical cogs sticking out? Would Goodfellas have benefitted from Joe Pesci's foot lunging out at you? Would Titanic have been any more profitable had the iceberg soared towards you? No - they would have distracted you at most.

The art of viewing and filming has flourished under the premise that these creations are projected onto a 2-Dimensional screen. There is absolutely no emotional, artistic or breathtaking result of 3D that 2D cannot achieve.

There's also a rather presumptious mistake in that those with eyesight difficulties cannot experience it. Or those with one eye. Granted, the latter category is a rarity but is the former?

Another issue is the cost of this bloody idiocy. At my local cinema you have to pay either a £5 deposit (change I would otherwise have rather spent on a drink or popcorn, thank you very much) that is refunded after the film, or keep them without your money back. Other cinemas offer free glasses [that must be returned] but at much higher ticket prices. This seems to just be ripe pickings for the artless and empty films (and with awful franchises such as Saw, Shrek and Pirates of the Caribbean getting involved, that's not set to change) to enjoy.

My main problem however is its outright presumption that everyone wants to go along with this fucking development and have an entirely 3D entertainment mainstream. I am certainly not ever going to purchase a 3D television. What is the fucking point? An extra £500 or so just so some text can appear to be "in the background"? Granted, I have only seen one 3D movie - Toy Story 3 - and perhaps it didn't exploit its potential: but that's the point entirely. It's a technology that is not at the peak of its abilities yet. It's currently a very touch-and-go area. And as things stand, I see no benefits.

Just fuck off. All of you.

You like your reviews of different things Shaun, good read again... and last time i was at the cinema was to see Toy Story 3 and i thought the 3D was pretty crap, hardly any difference, really do not see the appeal.

What would your prefer... Sit nice and relaxed watching a 2D film or sit uncomfortably with a pair of ridiculous glasses on for a much higher price to watch a film in so called '3D' which is hardly any different to 2D... i know what i'd rather do. I'm never been a big fan of going to the cinema but this has put me off even more.

Only seen the ones in disneyland like 5 year ago, was really good!!

Grimnir 19-02-2011 08:56 AM

I hate this fad of making every film 3D, its just stupid.

Only film I seen 3D is Avatar. It is great film, but I prefer 2D version so much more.

Jordan. 19-02-2011 09:03 AM

I hate them, the glasses are annoying and I haven't been to see a 3D film yet where the 3D parts actually look good and real.

GypsyGoth 19-02-2011 09:16 AM

Avatar was great in 3D. But I think the glasses are a bit heavy, they leave a mark at the top of my nose, so I usually hold them in front of my eyes for a break.

Pyramid* 19-02-2011 09:52 AM

My own personal opinion is that 3D movies are the biggest con out. Load of utter shoite.....

Pay through the bloody nose to see them and they really aren't 'all that'.

Went to see a 3D movie few months ago - was so amazed that I genuinely cannot even remember the name of it..... that's how good it was. (think it was horror???).

so nope, not a fan at all and not impressed.

Visage 19-02-2011 09:56 AM

Only seen the latest Narnia movie in 3D and while it started off fine I actually forgot it was in 3D and there were times when I removed the glasses just to check it was still in 3D.

We're lucky we live close to 3 large cinema complexes, so 2D is always available.

Yes, they are great and some are even 4D.

Difference is the Disney attractions are usually no more than 15 minutes which is enough time to appreciate the novelty of it all.

Patrick 19-02-2011 11:03 AM

Erm,

2D - 4 Pound
3D - 4 Pound

Hardly robbing people's money?
I think it's not neccessary for basically all the movies nowadays to be in 3D like why the ****** is Justin Bieber's new film in 3D?

Other movies though like animation movies and movies with alot of stunts and stuff, should be in 3D.

Niamh. 19-02-2011 11:06 AM

am I the only one who loves 3D??

arista 19-02-2011 11:07 AM

Hate it. Makes me feel ill. Honestly, I actually feel sick when watching 3D. Like a seasick feeling

Shaun 19-02-2011 10:45 PM

It gave me a bit of a headache.

It's alright but definitely a novelty that will wear thin fast. I saw Toy Story in 3D and thought it was great, albeit 3D didn't really add anything that couldn't be achieved in 2D and I don't think watching it in 3D enhanced my enjoyment. The glasses are a pain too and I think the only way it will succeed in the long run is if it can work just as well without the need for glasses.
