Should EastEnders have a 'Previously..' and 'Next Time..' Screen?

Was thinking this the other day when I watched Waterloo Road.

What would you think if they had a 'Previously...' and a 'Next Time...' screen at the start and end of EastEnders?

Hollyoaks is the only soap that does it.

It could piss people off because the Doof Doof is usually the first thing heard on EastEnders and the last thing heard.

But what would you think of it?

I mean:

BBC HD Ident Blows Us Away

Previously On EastEnders...
Doof Doof's Loop In The Background

Phil: Shirley how about we order a Chinese yeah?
Shirley: You're fat enough Phil!
Ben: YOU NEED SLAPPIN' DOWN!

Max: I'm thinking of dieing my hair Jack.
Jack: Don't you like being Ginger?
Max: What's that?
Jack: Well Bradley was Ginger so..
Max: Don't bring Bradley into this!
*Punch*

Liz Turner returns.

Liz: Hello Patrick.
Patrick: Yah Man!

Title Sequence

It'd be kind of cool.

What do you reckon?

They should have the next episode on BBC3 like they used to years ago

Oh yeah I remember they put those on Bravo like ones from the early Noughties and stuff.

Was brilliant watching them.

I don't watch it but from people I know they seem to be really involved & see it more as real life, I reckon adding that would make it seem abit over Americanised soap opera..ry?

Exactly what I thought.

InOne 20-02-2011 12:55 AM

No. Hollyoaks started doing it and it makes it look corny as ever

Kerry 20-02-2011 12:56 AM

No, works fine as it is

Judas 20-02-2011 01:12 AM

I think the whole idea of the 'DUFF DUFFS' at the end is to draw people in for next time, rather than a preview. However, I guess a summary would suit BBC3, just not BBC1.

Mrluvaluva 20-02-2011 01:18 AM

No.

Shasown 20-02-2011 01:58 AM

No.

Screeners before and after the bulk of the aired program arent really there to help the viewer, they are there simply to fill the airtime.

Using these screeners would simply mean you get less of an episode. Acouple of minutes at the start and then at the end means you get 4 minutes less of fresh material.

Callum 20-02-2011 02:40 AM

No, I would hate that.

Barbie 20-02-2011 07:44 AM

The fact that Hollyoaks is the only soap that does it says it all. Terrible idea, would make it so cheesy and americanised. Theres not enough time between episodes to warrant it either

Jordan. 20-02-2011 08:54 AM

No. Imagine how much it ruin the duff duff's by popping up with 'NEXT TIME'. If it had to have when then it should be 'previously' but then I don't think that is needed either

Agreed.

Doin't like it on Hollyoaks and wouldn't want to see it on any of our soaps. We have so much access these days to catch up it's not really needed.

Doof doofs on a loop in the background immediately made me say no, the doof doof on cliffhangers is cheesy enough.

Jords 20-02-2011 11:46 AM

Nope would ruin the impact of the duffs duffs. espicially if it finishes on something pretty big.

Maybe a 'previously..' before Monday's show of a recap of the week just gone.

Corrie managed to pull it off twice (Mad Maya & Tram crash week) without it looking cheesy, but to be fair, it probably worked because it was a "Next time" for an episode that was airing on the same day.

Having one on EE would mean getting rid of the the big cliff hangers

Actually I thought it looked REALLY cheesy when Corrie did it!

As for EastEnders, no. It works for trashy American & Australian soaps, but would look stupid on EastEnders...

Rob 20-02-2011 12:14 PM

It works well for dramas like Waterloo Road etc but can't see EE pulling it off.
