How many of the 50 US states do you know?

I am impressed that most Brits seem to know quite a few states. It seems like you could say "I'm from Arizona" without clarifying that it's Arizona, USA. Whereas in the US you'll often run across people who have no idea where Wales is and if asked may say swimming in the ocean.

Do you ever study the geography of the US in school or do you pick it up elsewhere (news, movies, television, etc.)? And feel free to answer the question in the title (give a rough number).

I watch the NBA and American football so i know quite a few , i think english sports should follow the American's in bringing in Cheerleaders during half time etc

I've learned them all off from wrestling ring announcers.

America's so cool, dude. We need more American members signing up to do seemingly nothing but talk about where they are from.

I'll post my results in a minute.

EDIT:

Just finished. And no, I didn't cheat.

We played that game off Friends a few years ago at school where you had to try and name all the states in 6 minutes. For some reason they stuck with me and that, coupled with the fact I watch a lot of American sport/TV etc., means I can name them all pretty easily.

Shasown 26-02-2011 01:31 PM

You're from the UK but got a higher proportion of States right than UK counties.

Oh well, 8 out of 48 is more than I got. I got 1 out of 48 and I'm almost certain the one I got right was by accident.

Unless the words are familiar to me I have difficulty spelling them. Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :D

MTVN 02-03-2011 06:47 AM

I'll try this later I know all the States I think but I always forget a couple of them

Angus 02-03-2011 07:26 AM

All of them, it's not rocket science just basic geography which I assume is still being taught in schools these days!

Stephanie 02-03-2011 09:13 AM

In total, you named 33 counties.
Good work, you've named the vast majority of the counties!

The remaining counties are: City of London, County Durham, Greater London, Greater Manchester, Leicestershire, Merseyside, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Rutland, South Yorkshire, Tyne and Wear, West Midlands, West Yorkshire, Wiltshire, Worcestershire,

There might be some surprises here, but the list really is accurate! See the Wikipedia article for full details.

:)
