Would you kill a loved relative to cure poverty and cancer?

A kind of similar question to the question I asked earlier on, based on the value of life. Although this situation is kind of opposite.

Would you kill a relative, for example, your 12 year old brother if you knew this loss of life would, hypothetically, put an end to cancer and global poverty?

This one life lost would stop the death of millions in the future but would still be murder - to you is it worth it?

Vicky. 06-03-2011 07:57 PM

No I would not.

joeysteele 06-03-2011 07:58 PM

No,I wouldn't kill anyone.

Smithy 06-03-2011 07:59 PM

Well you're a barrel of laughs aren't you

Tom. 06-03-2011 08:00 PM

Do you get put in prison for committing the murder?

Hmm, thats interesting. In this case I will say no, you don't go to prison and nobody knows about the situation other than you, unless you choose to tell people. But the weight of the murder of your brother would be on your conscience.

Jords 06-03-2011 08:08 PM

What a horrible situation :|

If I had a close relative dying of cancer, maybe, so it would become a 'who do you choose to live' situation with 1 having a MASSIVE benefit.

My brother is 13 and although he is a pain in the arse sometime, I would hate for him not to be around!

MTVN 06-03-2011 08:19 PM

Yes I would, I know I'm killing a loved relative but there's a good chance you will also save other relatives (as well as billions of others obviously) who might otherwise fall victim to cancer

Mystic Mock 06-03-2011 08:24 PM

no as i wouldnt love them that much if i decide to kill them over a bunch of strangers,i know it sounds cruel but thats how jedward fever sees it.:joker:

Conzors 06-03-2011 08:28 PM

I would.

This.

cub 06-03-2011 08:59 PM

No, I'd saved a loved one I adore over millions of people I didn't even know.

Boothy 06-03-2011 09:00 PM

I wouldn't, no.

I have no connection towards the millions in poverty or cancer patients but I have a close connection to my family. It may sound horrible but it's the truth.

Twilight 06-03-2011 09:11 PM

No i wouldn't, everyone in my family mean so much to me, i wouldn't kill them to save anyone.

you're morbid

this is never gonna be a choice anybody has to make so whats the point in even asking?

Iceman 06-03-2011 09:42 PM

Because preventing one death instead of preventing millions is the only obvious and sane thing to do?

It's interesting to see different viewpoints.

your 12 year old brother(although the OP seems confused about exactly who youre supposed to be killing here)?

anyways its just too stupid a question to begin with. Like something from a far fetched horror suspense!

but you carry on taking it seriously...

Yes he does a bit  And I know it's supposed to be your brother but you're getting rid of cancer and poverty here, you could save a lot more loved ones who might succumb to cancer at some point in their lives as well as all the other millions.

I wouldnt say I'm "taking it seriously", I'm just answering the question. Of course it's a hypothetical questions that would never happen but that doesnt mean you cant answer it, a lot of interesting discussions can come from giving an unrealistic and impossible situation

Zippy 06-03-2011 10:33 PM

these random questions are just too extreme and unrealistic to be of any use in determining peoples moral fibre.

at least use realistic options not far fetched ones from saw8 or whatever. Nobodies ever gonna have to kill their 12yr old brother to wipe out cancer and global poverty ffs!

I assume then with your honorable logic that it's ok to kill for the better good that you would be prepared to kill yourself for the same better good.......Tell me are you a coward or a hero......

Ah now that one is tricky to answer :p

I suppose logically I should yes, when it comes to I doubt I would, although I'm not sure

Niall 07-03-2011 09:23 PM

It would depend on the certainty that his death would definitely bring and end to cancer and poverty, if so then I would. Millions of lives outweigh just one imo, even if he is a loved one. Also his death would go down as noble and good and he'd be remembered for what he has done for humanity. :)

Stephanie 07-03-2011 09:31 PM

if the end to them was 100% certain, then yeah i would.
