'Vista Total Security 2011' - Sorted (yn)

It goes by many other names too.

Basically I have it somehow and its just a fake anti spyware scam to try and get you to purchase a 'registered' version in order to remove all the fake infections it tells you your computer has from a fake scan.

However IT is the infection and I dont know how to remove it, been googling and its all a bit confusing and was wondering if anybody else has had it?

I must of got it when downloading a music file.

Open your task manager and stop any processes that belongs to that virus then try running malwarebytes that might not remove it all though, you might need try doing it in safe mode or removing it manually.

Heres a link if you need to do it manually

http://www.virusremovalguru.com/?p=6848#manual

Good luck.

Its not really a good idea to do a system restore when you know you have a virus, the virus can embed files in the restore volume, so once your computer is restored the virus just starts back up again.

Start > All programs > accessories > system tools > system restore

It can restore your computer to a date before you had the virus. The virus might block you from doing it so you might have to go into safe mode by pressing f8 when the computer starts up

That's for Windows though, not sure about Vista. I dont know if this completely works, I did it and it seemed to remove the virus but I'm not very good at things like this really

Ah right, seemed to get rid of my "system tool" virus but it might not have done, I'm not really sure :/

Try Hitman Pro - http://dl.surfright.nl/HitmanPro35.exe

Free for 30 days & people said it got rid of that exact virus.

I think it depends what kind of virus it is, but that one Jords has will need to be removed asap because it will start to disable his programs, task manager etc.

Choose the "safe mode with networking" option if you have it.

Sarah. 13-03-2011 12:57 PM

I had something like this before on my laptop but it was called 'AntiVir' and wouldn't let me do anything on my laptop. So I panicked and took it to a store to be repaired. lol :(

I hope you can fix yours.

Jords 13-03-2011 01:07 PM

Right, system restore did nothing when put back 2 days ago, tried again for 5 days ago and I think its gone? Well.. its allowing me on the internet so Im gonna d/l Malware Bytes just in case it comes back!!! All in safe mode + networking. Taa! :D

But my 'K' key has just come off now rofl what a day! But on the + side my touchpad has randomly started working again...

Edit: Scanned using mbam and removed the infected files, no sign as of yet (yn)
