Favourite City in UK/Ireland?

What is your favourite city in the UK/Ireland?

So many people are going to say London, so other than London, what is your favourite city?

I absolutely love Edinburgh and Brighton. Amazing and fun cities and a lot of art culture.

In Ireland - Galway

In Britain probably Brighton as well though I haven't been to alot of different cities around Britain. I've only ever been to Aberdeen in Scotland and that was when I was around 12 so can't really remember it too well

What? Do you actually have anything positive/constructive to add to anything?

Angus 16-03-2011 12:30 PM

I love York - it's full of history and atmosphere.
I've never been to Ireland, but would like to visit Cork where my mother's family came from.

Can I not just say London? It's my favourite place in the whole world, besides that I suppose Manchester.

Where abouts are they from (if you don't mind me asking!)

Liverpool or Belfast.

Parts of London look like a bomb has just gone off there

Niamh. 16-03-2011 01:25 PM

well, you have a few names so it should be easy enough to trace through the Births, Deaths and Marriages offices here. Sounds like an interesting project for you!

Sorry deleted my post because it sounded so complicated, went to post it again and found you'd already replied! But yes, you're right I have all the surnames and apparently the bulk of Irish Armenians in Ireland live in or around Dublin these days so I might be able to trace her parents through the parish records. My problem is that they may have changed their surname when they arrived in Ireland.

In England, York, in Wales Swansea, in Ireland Dublin, in Scotland really anywhere but if I had to choose a city there likely Edinburgh for its history.

The place I love the most though is Fort William area in Scotland, all its surrounding areas,North,South,East and West of it,breathtaking scenery and brilliant people.I go there every year for at least a week.

oh, that could be make it more difficult alright, still interesting though! You'll have to let me know how you get on!

Would say London, dunno about where else, maybe Bristol or Canterbury, or maybe Edinburgh.

KG. 16-03-2011 02:55 PM

I actually haven't been to many cities in the UK thinking about it so after London, probably Norwich.

My son and his wife visited Dublin last year and loved it - only complaint was how expensive everything was, everything seemed about a third more expensive than in London! I just wondered how the average person finds the cost of living there.

I like lively cities so London is a definite favourite. Bristol would be a close second followed by Edinburgh. Newcastle is the best city in my neck of the woods and it's great for days out, but the dull nightlife doesn't even begin to justify the insane drink prices.

The only major cities that didn't do much for me were Manchester and Sheffield, although the locals in Sheffield were some of the friendliest city folk I'd ever met.

Sarah. 16-03-2011 06:11 PM

Liverpool.

Other places I like - Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Cardiff.

Shaun 16-03-2011 06:23 PM

I haven't been to many - only Birmingham, London, Exeter, Plymouth...jesus I think that might be it.

Exeter is lovely

Exeter is a beautiful city, just rather small and can sometimes be dull here.
