Tipping

How generous are you with regard to tips?

For me I find the majority of them pointless. Especially when most people will turn a blind eye to the homeless, those selling Big Issue, or buskers.

I know the jobs where tipping is customary are generally low-paid, but so is garbage disposal. So is cleaning. Do we tip those? No.

The only example where I think I am fine with tipping is with takeaway delivery - but that's more out of impatience and telling them to keep the change

I think taxi drivers make a ridiculous amount through tips - so I avoid tipping them. And waiters...what's the point? Oh well done, you've done what I could have done had I gone to the till myself, ordered it myself, and carried it myself.

GypsyGoth 22-03-2011 10:31 PM

I don't tip. Apart from in Paris, I leave 10% at cafes (well the person paying leaves 10% :D)

But could you serve 24 people three courses in an hour an half twice a day 6 days a week? ;) Not that I actually get tips often due to being the one who goes to cover other people tables on their days off :spin:

MTVN 22-03-2011 10:32 PM

Normally leave 10% if they're good, less if they're not. I rarely dont tip though, I feel guilty if I dont

Ramsay 22-03-2011 10:33 PM

Ah i hate tipping people
Ill tip taxi drivers when im drunk cus i cant be arsed waiting for change but apart from that i dont:joker:

Kerry 22-03-2011 10:34 PM

Don't use resturants

Tip Taxis depending on the driver (friendly) and speed

Tip takeaway deliveries but usually just the change

Tip the window cleaner at Xmas

Scarlett. 22-03-2011 10:35 PM

Don't really use anywhere where I could tip anyone myself, due to unsociable hours :3

Lol we don't actually ask for tips in our restaraunt anyway (no signs of pots or anything) our guests just tip because we build up a little friendship with them over the week

I tip all the time. Waitresses and the like are just decent people trying to carve out a living by suffering crappy wages and customer abuse in dead end jobs to fund their education. I tip taxi drivers because they are nice friendly blokes to have a chat to when they wagon you home because you can barely walk. I tip take away blokes for bringing me nice hot food in a job they definately don't want to see themselves doing.

I give money to the homeless too. I don't drink and I grow my own dope so I have plenty of money - I don't buy that much stuff - and ... at the risk of sounding pretentious ... I have no problem being kind to people like that. I just see it as a sign of decency.

I know plenty of waitresses and the money they make is appaling and they really depend on tips. Garbage men don't, in my experience. At least in this country they are well paying council jobs given the work you have to do.

GypsyGoth 22-03-2011 10:42 PM

I actually hate when you order a delivery of indian/chinese (or whatever) and the person who drops it off fumbles in their pockets for your change, it's like they hope you'll just get fed up waiting and say keep it :bored:

Novo 22-03-2011 10:56 PM

Gave about £9.80 to some homeless person once after winning about £94 on Roulette & Blackjack i was just on a high so thought **** it may as well be his lucky day only started with £2 anyway

Locke. 22-03-2011 11:59 PM

Just round it up in taxis, if it's something like £8.30 thenI'll give them £9.

Don't think i've ever tipped anyone else other than taxi drivers..

OMG do not get me started on tips!

I'll give you this now, you DO NOT tip then expect crap service.

How rude. Waiters especially, they try to make you people that usually have a dull night in, have a good night and you don't tip! Yeah you ever go back there and they remember

12% tip is what it should be, but the tight poor scum of the world forget this and just pay for the pittance they ordered. Honestly I never realised the crap waiters go through, but my god, the public are whining wankers.

Benjamin 23-03-2011 02:53 AM

Just to add. I have been a waiter and find that it is the dregs of society that do not tip.

Take it as you will, but poor and scummy people generally do not tip. ;)

Have you or anyone you work with ever done anything to peoples food/drink?

Be honest :nono:

Angus 23-03-2011 05:39 AM

I'm happy to tip if I have had good (or at least adequate) service, but there's no way I'm going to reward crap service, I'm not a hypocrite?

Stephanie 23-03-2011 05:58 AM

i usually tip at restaurants, round up to the nearest pound with taxi drivers and usually just tell the delivery people to keep the change.

30stone 23-03-2011 08:29 AM

I tip if the service is good and friendly if they are crap then generally i wont.
If they are like a pretty waitress they get extra, and my number on the bill lol!

I wont tip a delivery person i think they are useless usually.

People get payed for what they do, if they do it badly they dont deserve a tip, if they do it well, friendly smiling etc then they get a tip

Lee. 23-03-2011 09:15 AM

I always tip in restaurants, at least 10%

Crimson Dynamo 23-03-2011 10:27 AM

No tips. Silly system.

here is my tip for those that cry when they dont get a tip: Get a new job.

Niamh. 23-03-2011 10:36 AM

I do tip, waitresses etc rely on tips alot of the time to bump up their wages so I wouldn't feel right not tipping them (I have, not tipped waitresses etc before, when they were rude or unhelpful though)

I don't think that, if someone doesn't tip me after a week of serving them, I take it as a tip (geddit) that maybe I could have done better

LemonJam 23-03-2011 10:40 AM

...isn't calling people scum on here a rulebreak? Just saying.
