Because they are their own country. It would be like the UK being part of USA, I would hate that.

NI should not be part of the UK it should be part of Ireland and Ireland should be one place.

You don't get pissy when we're referred to as the 51st State?

No, I think it's quite apt really, we basically have the same culture as an American state these days

Because they are a proud and talented Nation with their own customs and ideals of society, why on earth would the Repulic of Ireland want to be tied to the UK,2 of the 3 that are have a growing number of their citizens who would love to be free of the Uk too, namely Wales and Scotland.

I think they get a pissed when they are referred to as though they are part of the UK. Like Canadians hate being mistaken for Americans. But thats a different thing.

i get that they might not like the idea, but i don't get why people get pissy about it and "offended."

its cus we spent so long trying to get out of it so when someone says we should be in the UK it insults all the people that died to make us a republic

Yeah I reckon that could have a little bit to do with, plus the way they were treated when they were subject to British rule.

Or then again it could just be because they get all that wet weather from the Atlantic.

Well, imagine you had really awful neighbours.. Neighbours who demanded your house from you then gave ownership to fellow awful people and demanded you then pay them to live there. Neighbours who would demand all your food and let you and your family starve to death...

Would you want to join those neighbours and their neighbours in a wee get together?
