Adele the only artist since 2008 to send 5 weeks at #1

Not since Katy Perry's 'I Kissed A Girl' (2008) has an artist managed to collect 5 weeks at the #1 position.

Congrats Adele! There really is no stopping her this year.

BB_Eye 27-03-2011 06:27 PM

Jeez, that song got boring after two minutes. Don't people have anything better to listen to? :conf2:

Callum 27-03-2011 06:30 PM

To be fair the competition has been pretty weak these past couple of months, no big new releases or anything. I think Jennifer Lopez might knock her off #1 on next week's chart though.

As long as she fails 7 weeks @ #1, then she'll lose to Leona, and Leona would of had more weeks but was overtaken by XF winner song

Amazing and very well deserved success, this week she has the Number one single and Album, another single in the top 10 and also still the number 2 position in the album chart as well as the top spot too.

You forget Rihanna's 'Umbrella' at 10 weeks and Gnarls Barkley 'Crazy' with 9 weeks. Leona is still on 3rd longest time spent at #1 this century.

I reckon she could of had 10 weeks, but x factor winner always sells 500k+ in a week, considering BL sold more than Umbrella in the UK

Bryan Adams, Wet Wet Wet, Whitney Houston, John Travolta/Olivia Newton John, The Shadows, The Archies, Frankie Laine, Eddie Calvert, Doris Day, David Whitfield, Slim Whitman, Paul Anka and Perry Como all got longer than 7 weeks too :spin2:

-realises you said 'this century'.......-

:bawling:

She's done well to go back to number one after slipping off it. It is a great song though

MTVN 27-03-2011 10:28 PM

Surprising it was able to get back to no.1, it's a good song but I'm bored of it now tbh

Callum 27-03-2011 10:31 PM

I think this week will be it's last at number one. Jennifer Lopez is currently #1 on iTunes and she's got quite a bit of promo lined up this week I think so the chances are she'll overtake Adele in the midweeks. Still Adele has had a good reign at the top and I doubt her album will fall from #1 even when Britney's released tomorrow.

No other original studio album this century has had such a long run at the top of the Official Albums Chart. Adele’s 21 now equal Madonna’s compilation The Immaculate Collection (1990) for longest consecutive weeks at number one by a solo female artist.
