Locke. 08-04-2011 05:26 PM

If a footballer player gets criticised for swearing at a match because people are scared that young players could get influenced then their parents are as much to blame..

You see adults taking their fans to a match screaming abuse at opposition fans, the referee or someone else so I guess by the FA's standards that is still acceptable but the footballers get punished, talk about double standards regarding their Respect campaign!

Rooney gets as much money as he does for his footballing skills, his advertisement, and to be a good icon for kids who look up to him. The crowd aren't getting paid over £100,000 a week, I'm sure if they was they would be able to behave.

Advertisers need their star people to adverise their products to be squeaky clean;). Money in football has been out of control for ages now and yes footballer have responsibilities to be role models etc but young kids learn swear words such as hearing people who they know do it or their friends etc..

Numerous footballers have been great off the pitch but have had personal problems off, they're human and make mistakes as we all do..

Locke. 08-04-2011 05:44 PM

It wasn't a mistake, it was him being a first class dickhead.

Well yes he has been a nob off the pitch but he's not a bad person, lets face it most footballers have been in some sort of controversial scandal and aren't perfect, same as us fans at some stage in our lifes:joker:.

However this whole thing has gone way OTT, as usual the media get carried away and regard this as big as some more important and sad news elsewhere:rolleyes:.

You expect this from Chelsea fans as they are famous for hooliganism but that doesn't mean it should be accepted. I think Chelsea should be forced to play behind closed doors until the end of the season for this.

Bit of an OTT punishment, celebrating right in front of Chelsea fans was never going to go down well.

You cant say fans should be forced to behave the same way as players btw, they are in completely different situations

It's time Rooney grew up,he is paid massively to be an ambassador for his sport not be a total idiot.

Well it's odd for a post to start off serious then suddenly switch to being sarcastic halfway through, probably why I missed it

A few hand gestures is hardly a case of hooliganism. Happens up and down the country at different grounds every week.
