Nato strike kills Gaddafi's Son & Grandchildren

A Nato air strike in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, has killed the son of the Libyan leader, Colonel Gaddafi, a government spokesman has said.

Colonel Gaddafi himself was in the large residential villa which was hit by the strike, the spokesman added, but he was unharmed.

His son Saif al-Arab was killed, as well as three of his grandsons.

Journalists say the building was extensively damaged and one unexploded bomb remains at the site.

Government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said the villa was attacked "with full power."

"The attack resulted in the martyrdom of brother Saif al-Arab Gaddafi, 29 years old, and three of the leader's grandchildren," he said.

"The leader with his wife was there in the house with other friends and relatives, the leader himself is in good health, he wasn't harmed."

"This was a direct operation to assassinate the leader of this country," the spokesman added.

Saif al-Arab was the youngest of Muammar Gaddafi six sons

Not good news at all. We are going too far.

Just been reading this, quite shocking really, considering Nato are insisting that their target is not regime change you have to wonder why this was a target for their air strikes. So much for just being there to "protect civilians"

If this is true then i reckon we in the West are in for serious repercussions. He seemed to be the voice of his Father and could have been the one to have brought this to an end with talks with the West. Another fine mess mess we sem to have got into. What about Syria where folk are dying every day? And the old addage of Zimbabwe? Wonder where all this will end?

I agree with you MTVN. This is going to get very nasty and even more involved if we don't pull back soon, surely this goes against the current ruling that was agreed as to how far the forces could go.

Thank you Boothy, I can just see us getting the whole blame for something else, its not the same I know but it is slowly beginning to look like we want to be there to get rid of Gaddaffi, just like we did Hussein in Iraq.

I've never supported our involvement there and I think it's time we pulled right back now before we get committed to being involved there for much longer into the future.

Are you sure you're thinking of the right person? It was his youngest son Saif al-Arab who was killed and not Saif al-Islam who was the one whos been on TV quite a lot and studied in England

^^ Yeah I think the one that just got killed kept a low profile.
