Are people reluctant to openly dislike Obama because he's black?

I think so. Or at least I think people are more reluctant to openly express displeasure with him because they fear being called a racist. He essentially has the same foreign policy as his predecesor yet doesn't get even close to half of the hate Bush got.

Zippy 16-05-2011 01:23 AM

some do openly hate him

but he's still relatively young and fresh to the job. Plus he's not a republican and they always get openly hated regardless of colour. But to answer your question, no they can easily find other reasons to hate on him without actually referring to his colour.

Give it time and he'll be receiving serious hate just like all who've gone before. The honeymoons barely over.

Isn't it like this with anyone who isn't white these day.

joeysteele 16-05-2011 08:50 AM

No, usually Democrat Presidents seem to get less hated than Republican ones but he has been dipping heavy in the polls the last year, however his cool response to the Libyan affair has boosted his ratings.

Glenn. 16-05-2011 09:03 AM

I would say Al Qaeda openly dislike him.

Crimson Dynamo 16-05-2011 09:42 AM

He speaks well, he seems a nice guy, i like him. He could do with a name change to Bob Steel but apart from that.

His colour? - meh

Yeah, these were two very important things that his predecessor lacked.

Very much so, he got so mixed up on many important speeches and issues.

Yeah, I think being a good speaker is hugely important in the leader of any country to instil a bit of confidence in the people. We had a similar issue with our last Taoiseach(PM), he sounded drunk everytime he spoke, which doesn't come across well when the country is going through such bad times :/

I always recall a speech Bush was making that went something like this,he said, terrorists will never stop looking for ways to attack America and neither will we.

I just thought then, crumbs and this man holds the power of nuclear weapons.

:laugh2: I remember that!

I think a lot of Black people dislike him. He's done nothing to help to hoods and ghettos of America, I think that is what some were expecting

Crimson Dynamo 16-05-2011 12:12 PM

I dont think he is black anyway, its just bad lighting

Jords 16-05-2011 12:16 PM

The chances are some people will be, but I dont see why it matters..

From what Ive heard, seems a pretty cool bloke!

InOne 16-05-2011 12:18 PM

He is also technically just as white as he is black

`It never works that way though. I person can have a whole side of the family that is 100% white but they will always be black

Angus 16-05-2011 12:57 PM

Why do people keep calling him black? He has a white mother and a black father, that makes him mixed race. If anything, he is more representative of the general population than either a wholly black or wholly white President, don't you think?

If people don't like him, I can think of any number of reasons why that might be, all of them totally unrelated to his racial background. For one thing, he's a Democrat, what's not to hate?

Jords 16-05-2011 12:59 PM

Its because he 'looks' more black and white...

Id actually say he was brown but its not really a term used lol

cub 16-05-2011 01:41 PM

For a lot of racist-minded people any hint of race other than white in your make-up makes you black.

CharlieO 16-05-2011 01:47 PM

Hate when people do stuff like this. Political correctness gone mad.

Like I cant do an indian accent mentioning nothing like curry or anything racist without being called racist. But no one would care if I did an australian accent. Its racism saying i cant do what I like just because im white.

This happened in BB8 as well, emily got kicked out for saying a word Charley and Nicky said in the exact same context and wasnt meant in a racist way at all but Charley and Nicky didn't even get a slap because they are black and allowed to say a word but a white person isnt. Its racism saying emily couldn't say it but it was fine for Charley and Nicky to just because they were black.

Rant over.

Yeah, absolutely agree with that. The Emily thing was clearly a reaction to the whole Shilpa incident though

How many times do we have to go through this:conf:

Indians are persecuted for their race and belittling them by imitation is one way. Australians are not so imitating them is no problem

It is to do with prejudice. A black person saying the n word is not the same as a white person. If you dont know why that is then you should not be in this thread.

Im quater indian myself so back off. Sorry indians in school in the uk maybe but so are so many people for no reasons so that makes no difference. There is like a billion people in india not belittled racially in anyway. But just to do an accent because i can, and in a serious way not in a baiting way at all is not racism.

And i understand the history of the n word but i am not forcing black people to be my slaves and i have nothing against any race in anyway so actually it is racist to not allow a white person to say a word in the dictionary because of mistakes others have made in the past. If emily had used it in an offensive way then id understand but she didn't. I agree it shouldn't be said at all but a modern day white person should not be persecuted for saying it when a black person isnt.

Yeah that's true, the two people who he promised to help most and got him elected, black people and young people, havent had their situation improved at all

And in answer to the question I do think people are reluctant to dislike him yeah. It's true that Bush did all those tax breaks for the rich which he isnt popular for him but most people hated Bush for his foreign policy, and Obama seems no better in that regard; the killing of Bin Laden and the aftermath proved that.
