Is the US two countries?

The North (Yankee land) and The South (Dixie) ?

GypsyGoth 20-05-2011 08:08 PM

Nope. It's the United States.

Is the US two countries?

Yes ..... the beautiful and the damned ..... ;)

Shaun 20-05-2011 08:19 PM

if you're talking about two very different areas I'd say it was more than that. It's difficult to make a list of what links North Dakota to, say, Louisiana.

The South has a completely different ethnic culture and traditions than the North. A lot of people in the South don't salute the US flag and if you look at it, a lot of people in the South would like to leave the Union.

MTVN 20-05-2011 08:45 PM

Well there's definitely quite a big cultural divide and the South still like to wave their Confedaracy flags around but I'd say their happy being one country. Secession didnt go too well for them when they tried it

Stu 20-05-2011 08:53 PM

Why is it a fail, Cuda?

It's a perfectly reasonable question. There is a massive, massive cultural divide in values and opinions across the United States. They are happy being one country and share some common values but the divide exists.

MTVN 20-05-2011 08:54 PM

I think Cuda interpreted the question a little too literally :p

Oh well. It was a great excuse to post 2006's hottest meme :laugh2:.

Some people in the South are still bummed that their whole society and world was basically destroyed in the Civil War.

Zippy 21-05-2011 01:32 PM

Its north, south....it's east coast, west coast...it's NY, LA....it's Alaska, Florida...all kinds of diverse cultures and lifestyles. I always find it silly when people generalise about America as if theyre all like minded.

lmao! Where are you getting this from? The South is the most nationalistic part of the US, and drapes themselves with the American flag at the drop of a hat.

Wrong, many housemates from The Real World have said that they are more proud to be from the south than they are from america.

The South is full of Confederate flags flying.
