The Voice UK (Dannii, Robbie as judges?)

I'm interested in this new US format show the BBC are buying, to be shown next year.

Dannii Minogue and Robbie Williams have been suggested as two of the judges.

The BBC have never had a lot of success with singing competitions - Fame Acadamy, the Andrew Lloyd Webber shows all bit damp and uninteresting in my opinion, but this seems like a good idea.

Thoughts?

I have to admit, I didn't think the BBC would consider another talent show so soon after the ratings failure that is So You Think You Can Dance. They haven't commissioned it yet though.

The US version is fantastic, I'm not sure the BBC would do the format justice?

Dancing shows are limited though in their appeal, singing talent shows do draw in the viewers, this could be a good move and good luck to it if it comes off.

YES

we don't need Dannii again. Fresh judges please.

I like the voice USA although I think saying its all about the voice is a bit bogus. Only at the very beginning do they not see what they look like. Then its judged just like all the other shows...on voice, looks, performance, song choice etc.

Smithy 21-05-2011 01:22 PM

I don't think the UK would take to it really, we already have XF

Dannii Minogue 'snubbed by BBC
for The Voice due to X Factor past

The Australia's Got Talent panellist was believed to have been lined up to host the new Saturday night programme, which is a big hit in the US, where it features judges Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and country artist Blake Shelton sitting with their back to contestants to judge their talent.

However, her past on the ITV1 show has caused problems with the rival channel.

A BBC source told the Mirror: 'Dannii is so associated with X Factor she wouldn’t be right for us.'

In theory a dancing show sounds more interesting than singing, but somehow it's always the singing shows that are more entertaining.

Good riddance X Factor, hello The Voice. :D

Stevep 25-05-2011 11:33 PM

Anyone care to explain the set up of 'the Voice' ?? Similar to the x factor set up? As in judges, eliminations etc?

Fame academy was good, I wasn't keen on one of the judges though.

The BBC should take advantage of this madness and announce Cheryl and Dannii as The Voice UK judges!

oh, I like

Doogle 17-06-2011 06:36 PM

So excited for this!

cub 24-06-2011 07:44 PM

Should be good, but I hope they don't use ex-X Factor judges or Dermot otherwise it will just be a copycat X Factor.

The judges should be great singers themselves for this one.

joeysteele 25-06-2011 08:21 AM

This is starting to seem like a very good series, just please no Cheryl Cole, wouldn't mind Dannii at all though.

I agree with cub though, why not all new judges.

How do I edit/update the thread title?

Jessie J has been confirmed as the first coach on The Voice UK.

The announcement was made on Chris Moyles's BBC Radio 1 breakfast show on Tuesday morning. Moyles made his team play a guessing game, with the 'Price Tag' musician joining in answering 'yes' and 'no' questions in a variety of comedy voices.

Explaining the 'blind auditions' format to listeners, Jessie J confirmed that the UK format will have four coaches - who are both judges and mentors - and each will choose ten hopefuls after facing away from the acts while they perform.

The singer also praised the 'blind auditions', adding: "I do think sometimes that a lot of people don't audition for these shows because... they don't feel they look like a popstar. I can't wait, I'm so excited about it."

Danny Cohen, controller of BBC One, said: "Jessie J is going to be an amazing coach on The Voice UK. She's a massive young star with a strong personality, and her recent MOBO nominations are testament to her musical and creative ability."

Jessie J added in a statement: "I'm excited to be a coach, inspiration and mentor and I jumped at the opportunity as it's all about 'the voice'."

Further coaches will be confirmed in due course. Musicians including Lenny Kravitz, Charlotte Church and Cheryl Cole have been linked to the programme.

The US version of the show - which is based on The Voice of Holland, an original Dutch format created by John de Mol - has performed well in the ratings. It will return for a second season on NBC immediately after the Super Bowl on February 5, 2012.

Coaches Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine will all return for the US show's second season.

Anyone with the right to live or work in the UK may register to audition for The Voice UK by signing up via the show's website. Open auditions will begin in London on October 31 and continue across the UK throughout November.

The Voice UK premieres on BBC One in spring 2012.
Quite a big coup for the BBC, wonder if they'll manage to get Adele too.

Joelle. 04-10-2011 05:17 PM

I think Cee Lo Green was supposed to be doing it but he had to drop out. Hopefully Adele will be a coach, I can't think of anyone better. :amazed:

Wouldn't mind Dannii but definitely not Cheryl, they really need 4 all new judges though.

Black Dagger 04-10-2011 05:18 PM

Jessie J was a great choice..

My ideal rest of the picks... Patrick Wolf/Will Young, Florence Welch and Guy Garvey/Robert Plant.

Doogle 04-10-2011 05:21 PM

No one related to XF please. You could say Jessie is related cos she was on Judges Houses but I mean no ex contestants or judges.

Joelle. 04-10-2011 05:23 PM

Yes, Florence Welsh NEEDS to be a judge. :amazed:

Tom4784 04-10-2011 05:52 PM

Jessie J is a big name, if the other judges are as well known then the BBC could have a hit on their hands.
