Rangers vs Celtic

The rivalry is worse than ever, why?

and do you understand the hatred?

Lee. 25-05-2011 12:49 PM

Religion, sectarianism, bigotry and hooligans! :)

Z 25-05-2011 01:00 PM

It's a joke, coming from a city where there is just one football team to support, I'll never be able to fully understand the intense hatred but it really is a crisis IMO. Some of my friends on my course don't speak to each other for days after an Old Firm game because of their support of one or the other team... It's pathetic.

The Old Firm Rivalry is the best thing about the SPL without it the SPL is a nothing league but playing each other 4 times a season ( + likely chance of meeting in a Domestic cup meetings ) doesn't help the whole league needs to be revamped and have the same system as the EPL

No, it's not. It's an embarrassment.

Without the Old Firm there might actually be an opportunity for other teams to become successful instead of living under this expectation of aiming for 3rd place at best; it's sad that teams no longer hope to win the league but rather finish 3rd. There's not much that can be done to revamp the league; there just aren't enough teams of a reasonable standard in Scotland to make it more competitive. I've lost interest in football since I moved away from Aberdeen; it's just really dull to me now.

I agree, the only time I ever take an interest in the SPL is when the Old Firm game is on, it's the one match I'll watch

Stu 25-05-2011 01:18 PM

Pack of spastics.

The welsh league had a revamp last season and it's worked out well, 12 teams and the split is awful i have never been a fan of the format really it would probably mean Scotland having 3 divisions as opposed to 4 but that would probably be a good thing more teams in each division meaning more competition for promotion etc

Yeah, I'll agree they're good games to watch but the bigotry behind the rivalry is disgusting. Alex Salmond referredto it as "Scotlands shame" recently, and I agree with him.

Football is a sport and any rivalry in sport shouldn't be based on religion. People are stabbed and die after old firm matches FFS! It's getting out of hand.

Yeah I suppose that's true, I dont really have a problem with politics in football like a lot of European clubs have, but not religous bigotry

InOne 25-05-2011 01:29 PM

The Rivalry builds an atmosphere like nothing else around the world.. i can't help but love it it might not be glamorous but it creates headlines and also as for the football quality it puts the rest of the league to shame it's the only chance you can get to see some decent football.. rather then huff ball football from then likes of Hamilton and St Mirren

Ramsay 25-05-2011 01:32 PM

Its completely retarded

Novo 25-05-2011 01:33 PM

Actually that's a bit harsh their are some good footballing sides in the SPL, Dundee United/Hearts/Even Killie were playing good football early on in the season but the standard compared to the top 2 is so visible

Grimnir 25-05-2011 01:36 PM

Rangers and Celtic fans should take note of Queen recent visit to Ireland.
Stupid religious bickering is THE PAST.
Its time to move one.
The rivalry should be just football based and very fierce.
Leave the religious hatred out of it.

All good things when it comes to sport, but you failed to mention the sectarian chanting/singing, the actual hatred between supporters, the fighting, the, erm sending of letter bombs etc... It all needs to stop!

It happens all around the world in near enough every league but Scotland get targeted a lot more for it.. It's all over the top. take the Neil Lennon and Ally Mccoist incident for example, the headlines made it sound like they went 12 round with each other.. when in truth they exchanged words before and after the game and just pushed each other a few times. The Munich and Hillsborough chants in Liverpool and United games don't get commented on at all.
