Watch X Factor decline now...

I think they (Simon mostly) has ruined the show. It needed a shake up but this is too far. Gary Barlow was a good replacement for Simon, but they should have secured Dannii and kept Cheryl.

I think there will be an interest in the first 2011 live shows, but after that a gradual decline. There will be a terrific media backlash (more fierce than we've seen so far) and then viewers will leave in droves.

Simon could return in 2012 as part of a crisis package - perhaps as a 'super judge' but I think Gary Barlow might already be having second thoughts and could leave after a year.

In fact can even see a lot of changes of judges over the next couple of years. Ronan Keating replacing either Louie or Gary, one of the Saturdays replacing Tulisa or Kelly, until we get down to a judging panel of really poor D-listers. Ratings falling still further until the show is taken to a quiet corner and put out of it's misery.

The shark has jumped. The show has peaked. There have been no real 'world class' stars. All but three past winners are without proper record contracts. The next signal for failure could be Matt Cardle being dumped after a year, same as Joe.

Not seen anything from Matt for ages :joker: Has he flopped?

I think the winner isn't allowed to release anything for the first year or something.

And the show needs someone like Simon to be mean to some of the contestants.

Doogle 29-05-2011 11:03 PM

Obviously it peaked with Leona winning, and as bad as 2007's winner was, the show was still decent and had a lot of controversy. Series 5 was entertaining despite no Sharon and also probably the best year for talent and most successful year for the finalists altogether, with quite a few having Top 40 entries, plus the first charity single. :D

Series 6 is where it started to become really crap for me, with the live audience for auditions. It removed all the classic judge moments. Then last year, I didn't even want to watch, but did because it had become such a tradition by then. :joker:

This year it will properly decline, but I think it went downhill after Sharon left. She isn't the best judge but she was entertaining and without it the show became less interesting.

Doogle 29-05-2011 11:05 PM

Also, it seems the aim now is to come second and not win. :joker:

Ikr.
It's going to be brilliant.

First BGT and now X Factor - it's excellent.

Time for Big Brother to retake it's crown as the Daddy of Reality TV.

the last season was terrible, with that weasel face being in the bottom every week

King Gizzard 29-05-2011 11:08 PM

Watch them start to allow more rapping acts through to the later stages..

Doogle 29-05-2011 11:09 PM

That's if C5 can do a decent job. With any luck it'll be so much more popular than X Factor and get more viewers than it every Saturday this Autumn (doubt it though).

I also see IAC coming back.

With nothing left everyone will be watching BB. Unless they decide to start going out on Saturdays :bawling:

I hated that bitch with a passion.

Princess 29-05-2011 11:13 PM

Gary himself still hasn't confirmed has he? I still don't think he's doing it but anyways.

cub 29-05-2011 11:15 PM

I think XF's ratings will fall but they will never fall below Big Brother's. People aren't gonna turn to BB because they've gone off X Factor.

Gary has confirmed, yes.

I've heard nowt :S All the Thatters seem to think otherwise, though I'm avoiding all TT news at the moment because of tour spoilers. You got a link?

It's daft InOne, they get the publicity and the winner, out comes the winners single but the album and follow up usually cannot be released until X Factor returns or somethiing like that.
The album cannot certainly come out until the new X Factor series is in progress.
So apart from the winners single and the tour, they then have to wait.
Absolutely ridiculous.

DrunkerThanMoses 29-05-2011 11:34 PM

It will lose viewers but wont fail.

Its on a saturday, and is a good family show.

With the economic problems we have in this world, people are spending less on going out, and rather stay in.

Love it or hate it, The X Factor is a massive impact for Britain, people complain the last two seasons were bed, but they still managaed to pull in over 15 mil a weeks

Yup, from ages ago. It's Simon Cowell talking to the media. His fee was £1.5 Million.

'There has been no official confirmation of Cowell's statement.' So Gary hasn't said anything then. I'll wait till he says it to believe it. The audition dates clash with the tour dates so that alone makes it seem not very possible.

Hmm, I guess that's right. XF needs some competition. :joker:

The Voice is a brilliant idea, it'll be on a channel with no adverts and if it has a decent judging panel I can see it overtaking X Factor eventually.

This is a massive problem.. winning not being that important anymore!

I think contestants shouldnt be able to be signed until after 6 months of the show if they didnt win..

arista 30-05-2011 06:35 AM

No cub

Its not on yet - so do not doom it
as changes are made fast.

You sound like the Doomed Mirror paper

Yes I do, don't I? The voice of Doom! Maybe too much wine last night!

I do think the show has 'jumped the shark' though. I think once the ratings - and it's ALL about ratings, not judges and certainly not contestants - fall then the media will be all out to try and finish it off.

What concerns me - and I am a fan of the show - is the way previous winners are failing and not sustaining a pop career. Will there be less good people auditioning? Will it become even more mediocre?

They should have tried moving the UK X Factor to Easter. That way Simon could still be on it and the the US version. It would have allowed the annoyance of the Christmas no. 1 row to settle as there would have been no X Factor winner's single til the Easter week.

As you see I have some solutions as well as complaints!

As Claudia pointed out, you never hear anything from the winner after the winners single till the following year when they release their album
