OTOH - In the Mirror :

Cheryl Cole suffering depression and at "breaking point"

Quote:

CHERYL Cole’s dreams of success on American X Factor were shattered by her secret battle against depression, friends revealed last night. The Girls Aloud star, 27, is still reeling after being axed from the show and sources say she has been “crying all week” since the news was made public.

But according to pals, her problems have been mounting for months after she went to America and felt lonely and homesick, spending days on end alone locked in a hotel room as she stressed over work committments. At one point Cheryl is said to have become obsessed with the Lady Gaga song Teeth – playing it over and over again, with its lyrics about needing a man and having “no direction”.

Wounded Cheryl, who has been clinically depressed in the past, is now snubbing pleas for her to return to the UK version of X Factor. Desperate ITV1 chiefs have raised their offer to £2million to try to get her back, but a weekend deadline has already passed.

And insiders say her problems are more long-term than just the bad news she has been faced with this week.

Since March, when she first went out to Los Angeles to begin her assault on the American music market, she has struggled badly to cope with being away from home. Cheryl has not been seen in public since flying home from the States a week ago. She is believed to be staying with her mum and brother who are trying to comfort her.

In the past Cheryl has spoken of her struggle to cope with the pressure of being a big star. She told Vogue in 2009 she was a worrier and revealed she once suffered from clinical depression.

“That’s one of my problems – I do worry about things. I’m probably going to end up dying with worry.” She added: “I was clinically depressed once after a bad relationship. We have it in the family.”

Asked if she was suffering from depression at the moment, a spokesman for Cheryl said yesterday he “could not comment on anything at this stage”.

Good for her, glad she's not going back to X Factor, giving a proper middle finger to Simon, he's treated her like crap.

Go back to America? Er, she hasn't lived there, she lives here. And the stripper comment is totally irrelevant to anything I can think of. Oh wait, its just a random insult? Ho-hum...

Niamh. 30-05-2011 10:31 AM

Well, if she genuinely is suffering from depression going back to X-Factor UK would probably not be sensible, shouldn't she be taking a break and trying to sort herself out? I'm just overly cynical about all this X-Factor crap now I think, i still believe it's all a publicity stunt, I'd put money on her going back to X-Factor UK with a load of sympathy from the public, nations sweetheart once again :/

Marsh. 30-05-2011 10:45 AM

None of the stories printed are 100% true anyway.

Simon, Cheryl, Fox, ITV etc haven't actually said anything substantial about her sacking. Least not to this tripe newspaper. Showing themselves up for making these stories up as they go because they haven't released any official statements or done any interviews.

And yes Niamh, I wouldn't be surprised if Fox told Simon they didn't want Cheryl at the start so they arranged a "guest" slot for her to get more publicity over here with all the "will she, won't she".
Although it's far fetched even for Cowell given that she was at the official launch of the programme in America and unveiled there as a new judge. And I doubt Cheryl would humiliate herself like this on purpose.

Yes, I was joking - see the smiley.

I'm sad to read she's unwell, although I can well understand it. I didn't know her family history of depression.

Money, looks and success and she's unwell. I have NO chance! :xyxwave:

Lol, I know but it seems every celebrity has depression or some addiction run in the family.

Zippy 30-05-2011 02:56 PM

there's so much crap being made up about Cheryl cole right now its unbelievable. Would drive me crazy if I was constantly bombarded with lies and false quotes about myself.

The fact that nobodies released a proper statement makes me think theyre still doing some kind of negotiating.

I think you are probably right Niamh.

I doubt she will host BB. She will crack. What she does best is being in Girls Aloud, after that is being a judge on The X Factor... lol

Think she will come back to X Factor UK.

However I think Girls Aloud should just reunite and make a new album!

Would they just brush off Tulisa or Kelly Roland from the XF panel though?
