Do you mind being addressed on a forum by your real name?

As we'll soon be getting an influx of new members I sometimes wonder if they feel excluded when people chat to others using real names instead of usernames. Also, if you're not particularly 'matey' with someone, would you mind if they said, for example, "oh Hi Greg" instead of Zee?

Obviously many have their own names as usernames now anyway. But I know when I was a newbie I'd be thinking either "Who the feck is Alice?" or "am I a cheeky bugger if I just start chatting like we're best mates?" Though that might be more one of my confidence hang ups than anything else!

So, discuss. Feel free to post your name too if you're happy for people to use it. Might stop some confuddlation too :D

And yep, I'm Kerry. Origionally joined as Jaye. Got to know people on here and felt comfortable and it was kindly changed last October for me :)

I used to get a bit confused by this but not anymore, I often dont like to use a members real name if they havent told me it though, even if the whole forum's using it, but I also find it weird addressing some people by their username

I hate people calling me my real name :bored:

Locke. 04-06-2011 11:43 PM

Yes. Sir/King Locke are the only acceptable names.

Josy 04-06-2011 11:44 PM

I prefer people calling me Josy but not my full name.

KG. 04-06-2011 11:44 PM

I wouldn't mind at all, but I think only a few people here actually know my real name

I rather just be called Beastie or thebeast. I think everyone else is happy calling me either of these 2 names as well!

But yeah obviously when new members come on you will just know them by their username and will take a bit of time to know their "real name" if they want to share it!

Sometimes I call UkTurtle, turtle or Ben. Zee, Zee or Greg. GypsyGoth, GyspyGoth or Claudia, Claude! I kind of call people by their name and username.. ummmm.

Victoria?

Patrick 04-06-2011 11:46 PM

LOL I did at the start.

I signed up under the chavy name of 'pmccaff2009!' and I imagine people probably looked at me and thought of me the way I think of people like Jedward-Fever and that.
Just like 'Ew, who are they? They'll be gone soon.'

I thought I was really cool sometimes, I'd say my real name in a post and be like 'Hehe I'm giving them a cheeky teaser of my real name.'
Not that anyone gave a ******

And then at some point during BB10 I changed into the fantastic man I am today, I often wonder if I'd still be as well known/liked/hated etc on here if I had kept my chavy original username.

I've never understood why people would feel 'left out'. Just make decent posts and you'll have nothing to worry about. I don't get involved with the off site fluff that often annoyingly spreads out onto the forum to the delight of nobody and wouldn't consider myself to have any friends here, just a dude whose posts people enjoy.

I hate calling you by this stupid new username 'Beastie' it's silly and it makes me think I'm searching up Animal Porn.

That's why I call you Beasty instead. :D

Stu 04-06-2011 11:48 PM

It's sticking about as well as all the other nicknames she's made up for people.

Princess 04-06-2011 11:48 PM

I prefer people calling me by my real name, I find it weird when someone calls me Princess. Probably just because I've been here for ages.

It's more, for me, that if they reply to a post and just say a name I'd be "who the feck was that aimed at?" sorta thing. Well was. Maybe as I don't do 'offsite' either. I still get muddled with which mods which when actual names are used

michael21 04-06-2011 11:53 PM

no one will guss my real name :joker:
