Big Brother looking for ‘genuine’ housemates

Source: http://www.bbspy.co.uk/news/0611/big...ine-housemates

The open auditions for Big Brother 2011 began in Manchester yesterday, with bosses seeking hopefuls that want the experience more than fame.

Potential housemates queued for hours at the Old Trafford stadium in a bid to get in the house, with some even going to the length of camping outside for two nights so they were first in line.

However, fame hungry-wannabes were at a disadvantage as the show’s crew are looking to go ‘back to basics’, with emphasis on personalities rather than looks.

Executive producer Katy Smith said: “We’re very keen to have really genuine housemates, people who want to do it for the experience and not just because they want the fame.

“Big Brother needs to be a bit more authentic. Our biggest message is: ‘Be yourself.’ If you aren’t your persona will crumble in the house. The house just gets bigger and better each year with each new group of housemates and this year, more than ever, it will be very personality-led.”

Those in the mix included 22-year-old glamour model Lucy Harold, who wants to prove she’s more than a pretty face: “People think that because you are pretty you are thick and I am fed up of it. Big Brother is an experience you can’t buy and I want to get out of my comfort zone.”

Meanwhile, 26-year-old professional boxer Jerome Wilson said: “I’d be a great calming influence in there. Underneath there is a very diplomatic person who is not always seen.”

Auditions continue in Manchester today, before they head to London next weekend.

I keep hearing 100 different things from what they're looking for.

One minute fat trannies have been linked, next minute it's this :S

SimBrotherNetwork 12-06-2011 04:03 PM

I know i agree, one minute they saying its gonna be the most hot big brother ever, then they saying its gonna be the most crazy, now they saying its back to basics "thats how i want it" :)

Doogle 12-06-2011 04:05 PM

Yeah I know right, haha.

I want it to be crazy, hot, controversial and outrageous, but WITH genuine people. I'm probably asking for too much haha.

I want normal non fame freak wannabes :D
that would be great!
be just like bb2 bb3 again :D

Yeah, BB3 is a really good series from what I've seen, but it also had lots of fun moments and controversy (haven't seen BB2).

Jords 12-06-2011 04:15 PM

They better do, although its easy for somebody to claim theyre just in it for the experience in their audition I guess.

Yeah, true, but I hope they base it on more than just simply their audition. Well they can't I guess but meh :( People will vote out the complete fakes when they see they're not like they said I guess.

Yeah, they're so good when they're all together!

We need another BB3.

Theres a reason the show was the biggest of all the series and thats because the housemates where genuine the twists were good and the parties with the bucket loads of alcohol were hilarious to watch.

The people were real and the audience could relate to them and thats what makes Big Brother.

No witches, glamour models, orange queers or warlocks.

Keep it simple but with a few good original twists and great parties. The housemates are there for an experience so give them a fkucing good one

seanraff07 12-06-2011 04:53 PM

Really hope this is the outcome, unfortunately I think people will just come across like this in their auditions then act all fake in the house if it means they'll get in.

CharlieO 12-06-2011 04:54 PM

If they get the housemates right like this it will be a cracking series. If they fill the house with 'essex' and 'geordie' like housemates then its going down the drain and will be even more trash.

This is so true!

Doogle 12-06-2011 04:58 PM

Even if all the people look fame hungry on launch night, I'm gonna hope they end up being kinda normal. :joker:

As I've said before, normal people arguing >>>>>>>> fame hungry wannabes acting up for cameras and being OTT

happybbfan 12-06-2011 05:19 PM

Anything which has a mix of BB1-3 will do just nicely for me with loads of alcohol, real people with a great mix of personalities, twists but not too many and tasks where the housemates were not manipulated or forced to behave in a certain way for tv but to be themselves no matter what.

I would agree with that,it's a reality show,we the viewers are looking in on people forced to spend time together.
As you point out the freedoms of the early BB made the series the success it was then. You have the right ideas.
I really hope you for one get in by the way.

That totally contradicts the rest of the article!

I saw the type of people they were letting through to the later rounds, and believe me when I say that 'fame-hungry wannabes' just about covers it.

Ahh cheers mate :)

I was doubing going to the audition but i honestly cannot wait now. I feel like a predator going for the kill lol i want it bad.

Tbh BB11 didnt really have any fame hungry housemates and it was still a complete flop.

If it means having a house full of entertaining wannbes over someone dull and oridinary im up for it.

Doogle 12-06-2011 09:31 PM

I'm pretty sure Ben wanted fame, he was just kinda dull. He was one of the best though

Rachael was definitely fame hungry, but luckily she got out fast.

Good luck, you seem to have the right kind of personality for it and also good humour too.All the best for it anyway.

i hope and pray C5 get it right this year coz IMO this is the last chance saloon for BB. A 2 year contract needs to be extended for the foreseeable future.

This.

However they hardly had any alcohol in BB11. Did anyone actually get drunk?? They just had bloody kiddies parties!!!

What is normal nowadays though? It can't go back to basics. Everyone knows what they are letting themselves in for with BB.

The only thing that can go back to basics is the house. We can't just rewind housemates.

Mario BB11 was normal but he was introverted. We need "normal" extroverted type housemates. Who actually have proof that they go partying every week or something. Or have been travelling. The type who have normal jobs and "live for the weekend". They would make the most out of BB if they had alcohol everyday or at least most days!! lol

Throw in a few freaks as well. Or people who are actually normal but are not part of the conventional "binge" drinking society.

Like Luke BB9.. he was brilliant but he didn't drink, smoke or swear.

Some housemates can be entertaining without alchohol but alcohol should ALWAYS be there if the housemates want it!

The house itself should be big, bright and beautiful. Not as basic as BB1's and BB10's house!!

They should bring back the chickens!! I can just imagine though a housemate getting so drunk that they go out and kill a chicken? Lol maybe the chickens should be released only when housemates are sober?

Andrew did. But he was the kind of boring normal housemate who probably shouldn't have been cast.

UGH I hope not - don't want the house dominated by vacuous tossers like BB3 Jonny.

I definitely think there should be more alcohol to let people's inhibitions down but we don't want dull people who are only ever interesting or let their hair down after a few drinks. There might be one or two hours of decent TV but most of the time we'd be watching them deal with hangovers.

Drunken chicken killer for the win tho!!! :D
