US Skins cancelled after 1 series.

The US version of the hit Channel 4 show Skins has been cancelled after just one series, with poor ratings thought to be behind the decision. The show, which originally aired in the US on January 17, began strongly, drawing an audience of 3.26 million for it's debut. However, figures quickly fell to 1.6 million by the time of the second episode. By the end of it's ten episode run the show was averaging just over a million viewers per episode.

Despite coming across as a watered-down version of the UK version it still attracted a great deal of controversy. Advertisers, including Mars, Subway and Foot Locker, all pulled out of sponsorship in response to attacks from the Parents Television Council (PTC).

The PTC had once remarked that “Skins may well be the most dangerous show for children that we have ever seen."

In a statement regarding the show's cancellation a spokesman for MTV said: "Skins is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn't connect with a US audience as much as we had hoped. We admire the work that the series creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it."

The original Channel 4 show, now heading into series six, introduced the world to Dev Petal, who went on to find worldwide success with Slumdog Millionaire

Kind of a shame when it was better than the current UK series.

If it was owt like our series 5, for a first series, then theres no surprise.

The first episode was awful but the rest of the series was UK Skins caliber, providing some great moments and even one of the my favourite ending of an episode of Skins ever (Episode 7 - Michelle)

Too bad because it was good after all. I really enjoyed it.

Thank god, I loved the UK series but the American one is just embarrassing!

i actually really liked the US version even if it was watered down
stupid americans will just complain about anything

The series had potential, when it wasn't echoing our's it was very good when it was though it was awful.

Season one and two were amazing.
Season three and four were alright
Season five was a disaster.

Skins in both US and the UK sucked. :bored:

I think that programme works so well because of how British it is :joker:

The US Shameless has done quite well, It's got itself a second series and they've actually done a good job of it.

Why can't they just show the originals?

i think they did show the original but it didnt really do good over there so they made their own

Showtime shows the original Shameless I think, HBO remade it though.

No. Showtime remade the show. The original version airs occasionally on the Sundance Channel in the US. HBO has nothing to do with anything.

The US version of "Shameless" is a hit.
