Who'd have thought this time 9 months ago..

When UBB had come to an end and the first C5 talks had failed that the same time the following June auditions for BB12 would be almost over and that we'd be seven and a half weeks from CBB8, less time than we are away from the first anniversary of the C4 finale? Makes the whole R.I.P. thing look silly.

Still, R.I.P the Channel 4 Era of Big Brother.

Well it is the end of the Channel 4 era, I for one believed it still to be a really good idea but I did feel sad that it seemed unlikely BB would be on TV certainly this year 2011 at least.
So I am overjoyed my pessimistic feelings were wrong and that as you say here we are only a few weeks away from the Celebrity series and then the next BB era begins. It is a good and right decision to have it on this year too, I am really looking forward to it.

The first half of it yes, couldn't care less how the latter half rests.

Might have made it a lot harder to find a buyer though.

It does make the whole RIP on C4 really silly, but on honest, i knew BB would be back, maybe not C5 but i knew someone would pick it up, but have to be honest i didn't think we would have it back on our screen this year, it was lovely surprise to have back so quickly, i just cant wait for it now, knowing it's only about 7 weeks away.

7 and a half tomorrow unless the date is changed :).

It is really great, I love how it proved the haters wrong really.

I love reading old articles from Summer 2010 and comments saying things like 'Thank God this stupid show is being axed now.' or on YouTube videos everyone said 'Good Riddance, Vile Show!'.

Now we can laugh at them.

I didn't cry or grieve the way alot of other fans did when the show ended in September - so I suppose deep down I knew it would return, infact I was convinced.
It was only around January that I then started thinking it was gone for good and was preparing myself for my first summer without Big Brother.

I suppose in a way, this still is a Summer without Big Brother though - seeing as it won't be on until August and it's just the silly boring Celebrity Series first.

Horrible decision there, to launch with CBB8 first. :bored:

Has the date been confirmed yet?

CBB's easier to arrange in time, though it will feel more like a short BB with a paid cast rather than a regular CBB as the house and eye will be new (well, probably the same shell house as BB11 but completely redecorated), the build up will be longer and the celebs will be even less famous than they normally are. From recent articles it looks like BB will launch on CBB finale night so we should for the first time be enjoying one series while following the build up to another one (and the same again when CBB9 rumours start towards the end of BB12).

And no the date hasn't been confirmed but Broadcast say the 10th of August and are very reliable.

People are commenting on it as if they are just HAPPY it is BACK. What difference does that make? It NEEDS to be good for 2 reasons. 1) For it to survive and future series get made on it and 2) You will all be moaning on here if it isn't up to a good standard.

So it isn't just good enough for it to be back. It needs to produce.

Yes we know but we can't ******ing comment on how well it's being produced at the moment because it hasn't aired.

Sam:) 19-06-2011 12:16 AM

Patrick 19-06-2011 12:22 AM

Oh yeah, they probably should have done it during that farewell Davina show that George hosted, probably the worst excuse for channel 4 to fill up a half an hour of my life that i'll never get back

And ALSO DAVINA WENT A YEAR WITHOUT GETTING PREGGERS

I know Patrick but its just the general responses you see like 'omg, its back'. Yeah but will it be good? Just my skeptical approach to this anyway.

After talks first stopped I didn't think it would, not for a few years, there were reports of Desmond smashing a glass in temper at Endemol not dropping the price on it and that he was considering The Golden Cage instead.

My OP isn't a "omg, it's back" post at all.

 What a crazy bastard.

I actually think one day we will see the Golden Cage though - Reality TV seems to be making a comeback where as Talent Shows seem to be dieing out, it's like the early noughties again.

So I suppose at some point another channel would consider buying The Golden Cage - it'd make sense, just depends on the price I suppose.

Did not believe it would happen. I wasn't at all surprised someone bought up the rights to BB or that it would be eventually 'rebooted',
however,
I still can't quite believe 5 will go ahead and do this so quickly.

I'd have said a minimum year off and really 2. And more like 5 years before rebooting.

Definitely did not expect this outside of worse case scenario imaginings. And yet it came true!

joeysteele 19-06-2011 10:32 AM

I thought it would not have been on this year again,I had the feeling they would want to leave it off for a year or two but I thought that would be a mistake.

It's rare that shows are brought back with any success once they have been shelved for a time so the news it was on this year is a good sign that they don't wnat the interest to even be risked to waver.

As to how good it will be, well some past series have been exceptional, others good, some fair and one or two tedious to watch,so it must do better than some but somehow I feel it's going to be really good on Channel 5, because they will desperately want it to be a big success.

C5 paid more than their channel is worth for the show though.

Sounds like it to me. What does it matter if it is back? It needs to be good.

It's more of a "doesn't it feel strange?" post.
