I wonder if they realise when their old shell is getting too small and that they'll shed it. Or does it all happen without their knowledge and they just react.

I#m gonna guess that they probably begin to feel constrained, so they break out

EDIT: I just watched it, its fine, i thought it was a spider pulling its head out of a massive hole and i am deadly afraid of spiders so.
