Do smokers have rights?

Or are they just nasty people who are out to kill everyone with their second hand smoke?

The goverment seems to treat them almost like Nazi's these days, when infact what they're doing, banning it everyone, stopping people's freedoms, is almost nazism in itself.

Someone should take a stand :nono:

I vote Niamh and Vicky.

Vicky. 04-07-2011 11:22 PM

Clearly not by how it seems.

Criminals have more rights :/

King Gizzard 04-07-2011 11:23 PM

They should do given how much tax they pay to the government (disclaimer - non-smoker)

Smithy 04-07-2011 11:23 PM

they are just nasty people out to kill people with their second hand smoke, i heard vicky and niamh plotting about it in the towers, they're gonna take josy down

Jords 04-07-2011 11:25 PM

People are a bit OTT about smoking, yeah it can contribute to many health problems (as does alcohol), but its been around for years and a social habit smokers like.

You know, I have never met a nonsmoker who is against other people smoking(in real life)

I wonder where all these people who complain...who the government is trying to please with all this bollocks...live

Vicky. 04-07-2011 11:27 PM

In fact, nearly every nonsmoker I know says they preferred it when people could smoke in bars/clubs because now that people dont, all you can smell is toilets/sweat and they would rather smell the smoke :joker:

Shaun 04-07-2011 11:29 PM

smoking bans :bored: just...stupid.

Boothy 04-07-2011 11:31 PM

I can sort of see where the government are coming from banning it in public places and although I don't agree with it, I can see the argument for banning it in town centres because children and non-smokers are obviously gonna be there. However, I think that there should be designated smoking areas/rooms in offices/public places at the bare minimum and I can't see any argument whatsoever for banning it in pubs. The reason people went to the pub was to socialise over a drink and part of the social aspect of it was smoking. The most they should do with pubs is make the landlord acquire a license, like they have to do to sell alcohol and make sure all employees working there are comfortable working in a smoking environment.

For the record, I'm a non smoker and the only time I can think the smoking ban has affected me positively is when I've been eating in restaurants. I hated going to proper restaurants and the whole place smelling of cigarettes.

MTVN 04-07-2011 11:37 PM

It's stupid to ban it in public, the health risks to the general public must be incredibly small and making a criminal out of someone for doing something that is perfectly legal is a bit ridiculous. I'm not as opposed to pubs/clubs etc. banning it but I don't think it should be law that people can't smoke in any of them, leave it to the choice of whoever's running the place

Vicky. 04-07-2011 11:39 PM

I would expect all the car fumes in city centres do more damage to kids than smoking could.

InOne 04-07-2011 11:41 PM

Apprently they're allowed to smoke in the house of commons bar, but not sure if that is a myth or not. If it's true, one rule for them another for us :bored:

I were walking down the street once and I passed a smoker and he blew smoke and I smelt the smoke and now I think I might die.

I've said on another thread that there are so many things we do to our health that is worse than smoking. There is more awareness today of the dangers of smoking than at any other time in our history yet we're sicker today than at any other time in human history. You can't blame that on cigarettes.

the bizarre thing is: most of my friends are non smokers - I'm the only one who smokes among us: and all of them say that it's well OTT the grief that smokers get.......... and that's coming from those who don't !!
