Has anyone on here ever had their dog neutered?

I've googled this but I'd rather know off people I know a bit than biased people on dog websites who aren't happy because pounds are full and want all dogs neutered because of it (:bored:) or crazy people on yahoo answers.

What changed about your dog after it? Like it's personality and stuff. Has it had diseases since you had it done? And if it has died how old was it, and if not how old is it now?

Got mine done at about 1 year old. Nothing changed at all...was expecting him to be calmed down but nope

Niamh. 05-07-2011 08:46 PM

my dog is neutered, he's 11 now and is never sick. He was already neutered when I got him though so I can't say if it changed him at all.

joeysteele 05-07-2011 08:46 PM

No, my Parents decided we wouldn't with our dog.

Vicky. 05-07-2011 08:47 PM

Oh the one difference was...he stopped trying to hump the kids/peoples legs

Jords 05-07-2011 08:48 PM

I dont think weve ever neutered dogs but we do cats, although Socks got away with it lmao

Mines alright with things like that he only really tries to shag someone once every couple of months, and it is never me so he can keep doing that if he likes.

We want to get another dog but he hates other dogs, so we thought if he got neutered he would calm down and be less aggressive

It can curb aggression if that is giving cause for concern.

well, my dog still fights with other dogs and humps the odd leg (not alot though) and he's neutered

Boothy 05-07-2011 08:52 PM

I had 2 dogs and had both of them neutered. One was really calm, didn't even bark ever or anything and the other used to hump everything in sight. I think whether their attitude changes depends on the dog

Apparently usually it does chill them out and make them less agressive. Might make him a bit less territorial too...which can only be good if you are planning on getting another

Haven't had my dog neutered but he is never in regular contact with a female dog so we've never had to worry about puppies.

Could do because less testosterone but depends if hes just natually aggressive or been brought up not to like dogs/not around other dogs to get used to them. Then youd have to slowly teach him, but Id figure it would help.

Niamh. 05-07-2011 08:55 PM

Oh and get a female dog if you are getting one because you could have problems with two males if both of them want to be the boss

King Gizzard 05-07-2011 08:55 PM

Got a stupid mental image of Davids dog always trying to hump his leg now

:bored:

Far as I understand, that is precisely the reason.

Yeah, I had two males and although one was the calmest dog you'd ever meet, the other was constantly trying to fight him.

"You have so many answers l hesitated putting my answer down.To me neutering a dog after 7 months results in less dominance issues, territorial issues, marking territory and generally seems to create a well adjusted happy dog which will not wander whenever a female in the district is on heat,a pleasure to live with and the only issue is he will be quiet for a day or two from the anaesthetic but he will not miss his private parts being'cut' and your dog cannot impregnate now any female and contribute to the unwanted dogs that abound everywhere.l have never found a dog misses anything at all although it seems when you suggest to men that their precious male be neutered they take it as a personal insult and a slur on their manhood and it has nothing to do with them at all"

These people on yahoo :bored:

We're getting a male and he will be neutered as soon as he's old enough.

Doesn't really answer your question I know but having looked into it it does calm them down. My bro in law has just has his dog 'done' too. He's a lot calmer.

TBH I think it's something you need to do as a puppy ideally. His behaviour won't change just cos he's had his knackers crackered. Thats more behavioural I'm afraid. He'd need social classes

Shaun 05-07-2011 09:08 PM

When we got ours he had already been neutered, he was extremely calm and friendly...oh god -suddenly misses him-

Kerry 05-07-2011 09:11 PM

Also if you get a female he or she will need the op. Otherwise - well, the inevitable

Neutering certainly won't harm him anyway. He'll be sleepy and sorrowful for a day but fine afterwards

Locke. 05-07-2011 09:43 PM

Oh I wanted another boy dog :(

He'd need to be really socialised with other dogs, especially male dogs, first :/
