Terminator vs. Terminator 2

Which do you prefer? (T2 on ITV2 right now btw)

Locke. 11-07-2011 08:50 PM

I think Terminator's the better film but T2 is more enjoyable.

Marc 11-07-2011 08:51 PM

I'm liking evil vs. good terminator (doesn't know much about these films but the second one is proving to be more eventful)

Scarlett. 11-07-2011 08:52 PM

I like the 2nd one best, it just seems to flow a lot better than the first

They're both really good movies. The biggest flaw of the second film, IMHO, is there are times when it is too preachy. And the kid at times comes close to getting on my nerves. The biggest flaw of the first movie is the special effects (while good for their time) look stupid, especially when Arnold cuts out his own eye. However, it's easier to forgive this flaw than it is T2's flaw.

My least favorite character in the whole terminator franchise is John Connor and he doesn't show up at all the first one so I vote the first one.

Haha nice systematic thinking Liberty4eva

I'm a big fan of the first two movies so I've definitely thought about it before.

I'm watching the second for the first time.. I seriously fail when it comes to watching 'old classics'

I used to fancy him when it came out:joker:

Oh and I voted T2, better by a mile imo

Effects are awesome in this one. For it's time obviously

2

1 sets the scene - 2 pulls out all the stops .....

2 > 1 > salvation > 3

Mac Hiavellian 11-07-2011 10:48 PM

The Terminator was a great 80s horror movie but T2 was better because it expanded on the story a lot and developed the characters. It was more complex, had more action, better graphics, an upgraded villain, Linda Hamilton was edgier, there was a twist on Arnie's character this time round but I do get why it was also criticised for the father figure angle. That was a bit corny.

T3 was crap in so many ways but the ending was alright and I liked Salvation for what it was but would've prefered the original ending. Salvation could have been better.

what utter crap

The original Terminator a masterpiece of dark suspense and sci-fi cool. The sequel was just another all out action blockbuster with the emphasis on action pieces. All very exciting but nowhere near as intriguing as the first.

Plus T2 had one of the most annoying, punchable brats ever seen on film. He almost ruined the entire film.

The other thing that doesn't rub well with me about the second film is the ending all but made it impossible for them to do a third one. Both terminators are dead, the chip and arm of the original terminator are destroyed, the company that would make Skynet is destroyed, what more is there? But they made a third one anyways! If they wanted to do a third one they could have left the door a little open.

BTW, would you rather have a 5th terminator movie or a remake of the original because clearly they're going to try and squeeze more money out of the franchise by making another one. I'd rather have a remake of the original because the story is getting too complex and confusing for its own good.

T2 I remember thinking how it felt years ahead of any other films around at the time.

Says a lot about James Cameron really. Ridley Scott's Alien was a horror movie and as much as I still liked AlienS Cameron did thrust it in to th action direction rather than horror. At least Alien 3 and AVP2 tried to be more like horror movies, Resurrection and AVP1 were just typical action movies. The franchise just fell apart after Aliens because it didn't know which direction to go in.

Another movie's been confirmed with Arnie in it but I think it's still up for debate whether it'll be a remake, T5, or even T3. As much as I actually wouldn't mind seeing a movie very similar to the basic first one, being a horror rather than action movie, I don't think it can be successfully remade because A) remakes rarely ever are, B) apart form Scream 4 I don't remember what genuinely last good horror movie I saw, and C) T2 was so big and successful I don't think it can be ignored. If the original Temrinator was remade then the writers, director and producers would probably want to seed bits of T2 in to it like how the Friday 13th remake was actually a mix of the first 4 films and Rob Zombie's Halloween had plot elements of the original Halloween 2 in it.
