Your opinion on tattoos

Didn't think it was serious enough for the 'Serious Debates' forum.

I'm pretty much impartial to them (like most things in life really! I'm so boring ). I think that a lot of them look very cheap and tacky but if you go to a good tattoo artist then you can get some really good results. I'm not really a fan of people who get random one's that mean nothing to them, I think that if you're going to have your body permanently altered with one then you need to be doing it for a good reason. I've always said that If I were to get a tattoo I'd get my children's names somewhere and I'd quite like some traditional Cornish language done somewhere too as even though I want to live somewhere a little bit more accessible (a city basically) when I'm working on my career I never want to forget where I'm from and how many great memories I've had in my childhood from living in such a beautiful county. I quite like tattoo art too but would never have it done as when I'm old and saggy it would just look odd!

Meh if its a persons choice to get one its their body so i dont really mind
Me and a friend of mine have been supposed to get a tattoo on our arms saying Selllout for years now but never get round to it :(

Marsh. 08-08-2011 12:18 AM

I think they can look good in the right place, and a good design but I think it looks awful when you have people with just random pictures all over the place.

My neighbour has a random lion head on his upper arm, then a bunch of stars and half a rainbow to the bottom of his arm. Just looks ridiculous.

Personally I wouldnt get one myself, but I dont see any problem with them. If people want to get a tattoo, its their choice.

Ninastar 08-08-2011 12:19 AM

love them

dont like loads of them though, and I dont like how common they are

Smithy 08-08-2011 12:20 AM

I think they can look pretty cool, but sometimes if you go OTT like david beckham has done, or you get a tramp stamp or something, then they're just tacky

Niall 08-08-2011 12:22 AM

I like the smaller ones that aren't so in your face. But I don't like the huge ones that people get that extend down their arms. They just look awful and pretty damn chavvy imo.

Kerry 08-08-2011 12:22 AM

Got one. But don't like to see many on people. They lose their meaning if you can't tell whats what

Lewis. 08-08-2011 12:23 AM

This one is awesome

Zippy 08-08-2011 12:25 AM

totally depends on the person

some have the swag to carry off lots of tats. But if you're just a normal everyday guy then keep it subtle. Discreet tats are classy. Avoid names of BF/GFs.

Vicky. 08-08-2011 12:30 AM

I have 4. So obviously I like them. :D

MTVN 08-08-2011 12:33 AM

I like them, I'd get one myself but I'm too worried that I think it will look good but then once it's actually done it'll look sh*t or I'll get bored of it and will just be stuck with it :/

Jords 08-08-2011 12:35 AM

I really like them and in fact want 1 but Id only have the 1 or maybe 2, I dont like people covered in them.

King Gizzard 08-08-2011 12:45 AM

Don't see the point, won't ever have one

InOne 08-08-2011 12:47 AM

Won't get one, would rather spend my money on booze

Maia 08-08-2011 12:49 AM

I'm not a fan of them and definitely wouldn't want to get one.

LemonJam 08-08-2011 12:49 AM

I've thought about getting a sleeve, but I'm too much of a pussy to properly consider it.

I think I'd like one more. On or next to my hip bone

Twilight 08-08-2011 01:24 AM

I love them, and will probably get at least one when i'm older, i want them all to have meaning though.

Patrick 08-08-2011 01:29 AM

I like them sometimes.

It's weird because all of a sudden every Tattoo place in town seems to not give a damn about age - like I went in with my friend who's like 14 and she got a Tattoo the other day.

Then my mate's brother is 12 or 13 and he got one aswell.

And they're real.

Dodgy stuff.
If I get one I'll get it when I'm like 20 - I love how all the chavs I know getting one are getting like JLS logos and stuff on their wrists, that would be like me getting a Big Brother eye on my arse and then Channel 5 axing it or something.

Livia 08-08-2011 10:43 AM

Every time I see someone with a tattoo on show, I think of the indistinct, greeny-gray splodges on my grandfather's arm. They may look good now, but in a few years time they're going to make you look like a retired merchant seaman. Lovely...

joeysteele 08-08-2011 10:48 AM

I don't mind the odd name ones, or one of a small design but I personally would never ever have one or advise or encourage anyone to have one.
I don't really like them.

Boothy 08-08-2011 10:52 AM

I like them, but I don't think I'd get one myself. I always change my mind about stuff and a tattoos permanent so I think I'd probably regret it in the future. We'll see though.

I don't understand the arguments against them, though. You always here people say 'Oh, I don't like ones that mean nothing'. Why? Tattoos, like other artwork, don't need to mean anything. Fair enough if you've got one that does, but I don't see why meaningless ones are looked down on. Surely just liking the design of it is meaning enough?

The 'they'll look crap when you're old' argument is a bit daft too. All wrinkly skin looks crap when you're old, a tattoo won't make much different.
